    Job Description

    Marketing Statement:

    Play a pivotal role in shaping Metro¿s safety culture and regulatory leadership. As the Director of Safety Policy & Promotion, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of agency wide safety policies while championing the promotion and communication of Metro¿s Safety Management System (SMS). This role ensures compliance with federal safety regulations and sets the strategic direction for how safety expectations are embedded across the organization.

     

    This senior leadership position drives the Agency Safety Plan lifecycle, oversees enterprise safety training and communications, and measures the effectiveness of Metro¿s safety culture. You will collaborate closely with executive leaders, operational departments, and frontline stakeholders to translate policy into practice, shaping behaviors, influencing decision-making, and strengthening accountability at every level of the Authority.

You bring the ability to align diverse teams around a shared vision, manage complex programs, and communicate clearly in high-impact environments.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    + A Bachelor¿s Degree in Communications, Education, Business Administration, Safety, Project Management, or another relevant field

    + In lieu of a Bachelor¿s degree, a high school diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in the field of communications, safety, training, project management and/or team management, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered

    Experience

    + A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the field of Communications, Safety, Training, Project Management, and/or General Management, to include at least three (3) years in a supervisory management capacity

    Certification/Licensure

    + Valid Driver¿s License

    Preferred

    + Safety experience and certification e.g., Transportation Safety Institute, World Safety Organization

    + Training or instructional design experience and certification e.g., OSHA, Transportation Safety Institute

    + Communications experience and certification e.g., IABC Communication Management Professional

    + Project Management experience and certification e.g., Project Management Professional, PROSCI

    + Management experience and certification e.g., Chartered Management Institute

    SUMMARY

    The Director of Safety Policy & Promotions ensures the Authority¿s compliance with federal regulations relating to Safety Policy and Promotions. In collaboration with senior leaders across the agency, the incumbent manages safety policies and oversees their implementation, and directs the effective promotion, communication, and training of the agency wide Safety Management System, in order to sustain a robust safety culture.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Owns and manages the Agency Safety Plan¿s annual review, drafting and submission process; coordinates Department of Safety activities to ensure its effective implementation to set strategic direction of safety for the agency and to comply with federal regulations.

    + Reviews agency policies and works collaboratively across departments to make improvements to policy, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, to deliver an effective Safety Management System, and to improve the safety culture in all areas of the agency.

    + Designs, delivers, and monitors the effectiveness of all safety trainings for all Metro staff and stakeholders. Continually strives to influence attitudes and change behaviors of Metro personnel to support the implementation and maintenance of an effective Safety Management System, and to comply with federal regulations.

    + Drafts, delivers, and coordinates all strategic and operational safety communications with all Metro staff and stakeholders. Communicates critical safety information to promote change in staff and stakeholder attitudes and behaviors, with the intent to improve safety performance and culture.

    + Assesses, tracks and reports on Metro¿s safety culture through a consultative process with all levels of the agency to determine the effectiveness of Metro¿s implementation of its safety management system and recommend improvements where required.

    + Scopes, plans, manages, and coordinates multiple programs and projects to deliver strategic and operational change in support of the Safety Management System.

    + Leads and manages the Policy & Promotion team of employees and contractors within the Department of Safety to deliver the functions and responsibilities of the team to support the Safety Management System.

    + Skills and/or behavioral assessment

    + Medical examination including a drug and alcohol screening (for safety sensitive positions)

    + Review of a current motor vehicle report
