    HUMAN SERVICES

    CASEWORKER

    SUMMARY:

    Under direction, provides professional human services related to child and adult protective services in the Department of Human Services; conducts crisis investigations to determine the validity of abuse and neglect allegations and ensure the safety of at risk children, adolescents or fragile adults; conducts client assessments and develops case plans; coordinates with collateral agencies and other involved parties to exchange information and/or make client referrals; and performs other related duties as assigned.

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Provides individual or family crisis intervention services to children, adolescents, or elderly adults who are experiencing significant social problems; interprets and communicates department rules, policies, and other requirements to clients, service providers, and the general public.

    • Receives and screens allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or self-neglect; investigates allegations by conducting site visits, interviewing involved parties, and assessing physical and emotional conditions including housing, health and relationship issues; makes collateral contact with community resources including courts, law enforcement, probation, mental health and medical personnel to obtain additional information; initiates immediate action if needed to protect at risk individuals.

    • Completes intake screening processes for juveniles who have been arrested, taking into consideration community safety and the least restrictive placement options; coordinates with other agencies to initiate juvenile case planning.

    • Confers with attorneys, clients, parents, witnesses, and others in preparation for various legal proceedings; gathers and consolidates case information and prepares documentation for court hearings; attends and testifies at hearings as required.

    • Provides family preservation services to retain children/adolescents in the home and/or to return home; supervises visits between parents and children; transports children to various locations as needed.

    • Recruits and certifies foster and foster adopt families; provides case management and ongoing support to certified foster families by conducting monthly home visits, monitoring case files, and ensuring compliance with state rules and regulations; completes home studies for foster families, kinship families, and adoptive families.

    • Assists with guardianship or conservatorship arrangements for clients.

    • Manages an ongoing caseload of clients requiring human services; interviews clients by phone or in person, in clients’ homes or at Human Services office locations; reviews law enforcement, court and health records and confers with family members, attorneys, health providers and others as appropriate; assesses client needs and works with interdisciplinary teams to develop short and long term care plans; teaches and counsels clients on life skills; monitors client progress toward goals and objectives.

    • Makes referrals and coordinates supportive services with schools, health providers, law enforcement, and other collateral agencies to address client needs; conducts a comprehensive assessment of clients’ psychological, physical, social, and environmental status in order to determine the need for new or

    • Prepares and maintains case records, reports, and correspondence, including documents for the courts; utilizes computer systems to input and retrieve information; prepares information for record requests; completes required state/federal forms and reports.

    • Provides human services related to non-protective human service programs as assigned.

    • Attends meetings and training; serves on committees, teams, and task forces as assigned; facilitates case conferences; performs and/or participates on special projects.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Education:

    Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, sociology, psychology, counseling, or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable.

    Experience:

    Two years of progressively responsible professional social casework in a public or private human services agency.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

    • Valid Colorado Driver’s License may be required to operate a County vehicle.

    • Must obtain CPR certification within three months of appointment.

    • Must obtain APCO Emergency Medical Dispatch certification within six months of appointment and maintain such certification during employment.

    • Must obtain ACPO Public Safety Telecommunicator certification within six month of appointment and maintain such certification during employment.
