    TheCzechowiczLabwithintheDivision of Hematology,Oncology,StemCellTransplantationandRegenerativeMedicine,inthe Departmentof PediatricsatStanfordUniversitySchoolof Medicineisseekingamotivated,friendlyandwell-organizedLifeScienceResearch Professional3/4tojoin their team.Thisadynamicandstimulatingplacetowork,focusedon excellencein research,education andpatient careandtheLSRP 3/4wouldbeawelcomeaddition tostrengthen thegroupsefforts.The Czechowiczlabisfocusedonhematopoieticstemcellbiologyandfurtherexploringhowhematopoieticstemcellsinteractwith theirmicroenvironmentthroughbasicscienceandtranslationalmedicineparticularlyinbonemarrowfailure,immunedeficiencies and/orleukemiatoultimately improveoutcomesfor thesepatientsandmany others.

     

    Thelaboratoryhaspreviouslyconductedpioneeringworkdemonstratingthathematopoieticstemcell(HSC)depletionisacritical component todonor HSC engraftment.They havedevelopedmultiplepre-clinicalagentsthat enablesafeand targetedHSCconditioning,severalof whichareturningintopromisingclinicaltherapies.Theyarenowusingtheseagentsasprobesto understand underlying hematopoieticbiology and areapplying thesetothetreatment ofcandidatediseasesofgreat need.They are furtheraugmentingthisworkwithcomplementaryeffortsintherapeuticgenemodification.Theyareprimarilyfocusedongenetic andmalignant bloodandimmunediseases(e.g.immunodeficiencies,bonemarrow failureandleukemia),but thiswork couldalso potentially be expanded to other organ systems as well. The ideal candidate would be able to seamlessly integrate into the group to lead basic and translational projects, including assessment of correlative studies from clinical trials. They would also be able to oversee others, lead large collaborative projects and support with research proposals/grant funding. Technical expertise in flow cytometry is critical in this work, and the individual will also be responsible for overseeing the lab’s flow cytometer and assisting in laboratory management with others on the team. The individual will also be expected to onboard, teach and train new lab members.

     

    Thelabstrivestomaintainahighly collaborative,dynamicandpositiveenvironment.TheLSRP3/4wouldbeagreatadditiontothe teamandhelpwithexcitingbasicandtranslationalexperimentsthathopefullywillresultinexcitingnewtherapiesforpatients.

     

    Specifically,theLSRP 3/4willbeaskedtoperformcomplexfunctionsandactivitiesinvolvedindefinedresearchprojects,independentlyconductamajorportionof theresearchproject(s)andassistwithlabmanagement.

    Dutiesinclude:

    • Designresearchapproachesforamajorportionofresearchproject(s),includingbackgroundresearch,experimentaldesignand execution,problem-solving,andwritingup for publication.

    • Developnewprotocolstestandevaluateavarietyofapproaches.

    • Performcomplex(laband/orfield)experiments,andmaintaindetailedrecordsofexperimentsandoutcomesanalyzeandinterpretresearchdataresultingfrom originalproceduresandmethods.

    • Assistwithnewresearchproposalsandapplicationsforfundingandgrants.

    • Leadorparticipateinmultidisciplinaryteamsacrossdifferentfacultiesorschools.

    • Prepareperiodicprogressreportsorwrittenreportsonallphasesofresearchprojects.

    • Contributesubstantively tothepreparation ofpapersfor publication,especiallyin theresultssectionand beaco-author onpublications.Presentongoingworkandfindingstocolleaguesatacademicconferences.

    • Perform ongoingliteraturereview toremaincurrentwithnewproceduresandrelatedresearchproposenew research directions based on new advancesdiscussedin literature.

    • Overseesupplyandequipmentbudgetunderminimalsupervisionofprincipalinvestigatororbusinessmanager.

    • Workwithhealthandsafetydepartmenttoensurelabcomplieswithregulationsandallrequiredtrainings.

    • Formallysuperviseandtrainnew stafforstudentsasneeded,includinghiring,performancemanagement,andrelated duties,inadditiontoinstructionontechniquesandconsultationonprojectwork.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $100,082.00 to $118,812.00 annually_

    DESIREDQUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduate degree (M.S., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D.) in biological sciences with emphasis on hematopoiesis and/or immunology. Prefer** **candidate with** **more than** **10** **years of** **experience** **at** **the** **research** **bench** **with** **emphasis** **on** **the development of translatable immunological models within the fields of stem/bone marrow transplantation. Candidate must have at least 10 years of experience operating and conducting flow cytometry-based experiments and associated data analysis.

    EDUCATION&EXPERIENCEREQUIRED:

    Bachelor'sdegreein relatedscientificfield and fouryearsofrelevant work experience; or Master’sdegreein arelatedscientificfield and two years relevant experience; or PhD in related scientific field

    KNOWLEDGESKILLSANDABILITIESREQUIRED:

    • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles

    • Expertlevelknowledgeandskillsinfieldofsciencerelatedtoresearchproject

    PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

    • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk- based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.

    • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.

    • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.

    • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.

    • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.

    • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

    • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.

    • Position may require repetitive motion.
