Summary You will serve as a WATER PLANT OPERATOR in the NUCLEAR OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will perform the duties of a Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area Worker. You will maintain an accountability and storage system to ensure Radioactive Material (RAM) is properly packaged and handled during transfer/storage and is not lost or misplaced. You will escort radioactive materials when moved between radiologically controlled areas, approved storage facilities and worksites. You will prepare waste for shipping to an outside contractor for disposal, radiological decontamination of various components and tools, and inspection. You will prepare potentially radioactive contaminated vacuum cleaners for reuse in accordance with Nuclear Standard Instructions. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Operate systems such as Waste Separation, Water Solidification, and Decontamination system processes in radiological repair facilities. Inspect and maintain the Mixed Waste Accumulation Areas throughout the facility. Follow rules and regulations to ensure proper disposal and transportation of waste on public transport systems. Read, classify, and utilize the FSSR (Facilities Systems Status Reports). Operate forklift to move materials weighing several hundred pounds.
