    Choice Hotels has an exciting new opportunity as a Senior Data Engineer in the SkyTouch Technology division. SkyTouch Technology, is an independently operated division of Choice Hotels that provides the most widely used cloud-based (SaaS) hotel property management system. As a key member of our SkyTouch Software Engineering - Data, you will drive the design and reliability of our data ecosystem, ensuring high-quality, scalable data is always available to power analytics, reporting, and innovation.

    Your Responsibilities

    + Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines using AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, and Athena.

    + Architect and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and storage solutions for both batch and real-time data processing

    + Lead the development of data models and schemas that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases

    + Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance through monitoring, alerting, and automated validation frameworks

    + Optimize cost and performance of AWS data solutions through efficient resource usage and tuning

    + Collaborate with other data engineers, analysts, and product teams to translate business requirements into technical data solutions

    + Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, security, and compliance, including IAM, encryption, and access controls

    + Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level data engineers

    + Participate in architectural and code reviews, technical decision-making, and long-term data platform strategy

     

    Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

     

    + Bachelor's degree in related field Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

    + Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

    + Minimum of 5+ years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines, with at least 2–3 years of hands-on experience using AWS data services (e.g., S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Athena, Lambda, Kinesis) and how to architect them together

    + Strong programming skills in Python SQL, and/or Spark, with experience building production-grade data pipeline

    + Data modeling expertise for analytical and operational use cases (star/snowflake schemas, dimensional modeling)

    + Experience with batch and streaming data processing frameworks

    + Ability to design scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-efficient data architectures

    + Strong understanding of distributed systems, data partitioning, and performance tuning

    + Expertise in data quality, observability, and reliability practices

    + Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices

    + Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills across data pipelines and cloud infrastructure

    + Demonstrates key competencies to include managing complexity, valuing differences, and cultivating innovation

    This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Manager of Software Engineering - Data. You will have 14 peer teammates and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.
