Water Treatment Plant Operator
Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a **Water Treatment Plant Operator** to oversee and ensure the safe operation of our Tollefson and Ute Pass Water Treatment Plants. Our Water Treatment Plant Operators handle non-routine equipment and process control problems in our plants, and have the opportunity to perform special projects and assist our Water Treatment Operations Supervisors in emergency situations related to plant performance, operations, and safety. _This position will be filled at one of the following three levels depending upon the qualifications and certification level of the successful candidate:_
+ **Treatment Plant Operator-B** ($38.13, then $40.03 after probation)
+ **Treatment Plant Operator-C** ($34.55, then $36.29 after probation)
+ **Treatment Plant Operator-D** ($31.34, then $32.91 after probation)
What Will You be Doing?
+ Operating a water treatment plant while complying with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
+ Controlling, understanding, monitoring, and changing plant operation processes for conventional water treatment processes
+ Accurate data acquisition and maintaining records of the daily treatment operations
+ Troubleshooting routine, non-routine, and complex treatment processes, water quality issues, or equipment problems
+ Performing equipment maintenance and calibrating and maintaining all process instrumentation
+ Performing sampling and testing on plant processes and interpreting results
+ Completing and accurately filing regulatory reports and pertinent legal documents
+ Writing training documents and standard operating procedures for new operational procedures and/or equipment
+ Inventorying and ordering treatment chemicals, and mixing chemicals to proper concentrations
+ Adhering to, understanding, and reviewing the EPA Risk Management Program, chlorine system safety, discharge permits, and all other environmental procedures
Who You Are
+ Possession of a Class B, C, or D Colorado Water Treatment Operator Certification
+ At minimum, the ability to obtain a Class D Certification within six months of hire, and demonstrate the ability and desire to advance through the State Operator Certification Program
+ Knowledge of or experience working in water operations or a related field
+ Completion of an academic or technical program in water environment technologies is **_valued_**
+ Basic knowledge chemistry, biology, hydraulics, mathematics, and/or mechanical concepts and principles is **_valued_**
+ Knowledge of and experience with process instrumentation, SCADA process controls, and trending of treatment processes is **_valued_**
+ Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is **_required_** - this job requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities' vehicles as an essential job function
Additional Considerations and Expectations
+ While in training (approximately six months), you will typically work four ten-hour shifts, and will transition to your designated operator schedule once training is complete. Upon completion of training, you will transition to a typical shift worker schedule.
+ As the designated shift operator, you will be expected to work day shifts, night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs.
+ When working the night shift, you'll be eligible for shift differential pay.
