    Energy Settlement Analyst

     

    We are seeking an **Analyst** to join our Energy Settlements Group, which supports Colorado Springs Utilities energy trading operations. This position is responsible for timely and accurate completion of work that includes producing energy bills, processing invoices, creating journal entries and general ledger reconciliations, reporting, and audit support. In this position, you will leverage your research and analytical skills through reviewing, interpreting, and applying contractual requirements related to energy trading and settlements, electric and gas cost adjustment analysis, and other high-profile projects. You will be part of a team committed to enhancing the efficiency and value of our Energy Supply Portfolio while providing essential services to the community, all in an atmosphere that encourages your ideas and contributions.

     

    What will you be doing?

     

    + Completing financial month-end and year-end close activities and annual audit requirements, and creating monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations

    + Supporting trading and settlement decisions through data mining and fundamental analysis techniques

    + Analyzing and communicating information and reports to the Energy Traders and management for key decision making

    + Assessing errors and variances to reconcile commodity transaction discrepancies with counterparties and managing disputes

    + Validating settlement statements to include pre-settlements, operational and trading feedback, meter data submittals, shadow settlements, settlement disputes, invoicing, approvals, and month-end accounting close

    + Reviewing meter and measurement data for accuracy in collaboration with relevant working groups as related to settlement activities

    + Understanding system requirements and communicating trade capture software functionality in support of software reliability and consistency

    + Developing and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity

    + Assessing and testing energy trading, risk management, and settlement software systems

     

    Who you are...

     

    + A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field is preferred

    + Knowledge and a strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts

    + Relevant and progressively responsible experience in accounting and/or settlements, or a relevant energy analytical or business research-oriented environment

    + Knowledge of the Southwest Power Pool Regional Transmission Organization (SPP RTO) is valued

    + Experience with energy trade capture software (e.g., Allegro, OATI, PCI) is valued

    + Knowledge of developments in regulations, laws, tariffs, business practices, and best practices applicable to energy trading is valued
