As an Embedded Software Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware systems for our AR, VR, and wearable devices, working on low-level systems software and connectivity protocols. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems and drive innovation in areas such as real time audio and machine learning, helping to shape the future of technology and create new experiences for augmented reality, virtual reality, and social/family products.
Required Skills:
Embedded Software Engineer (PhD) Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement real time solutions in an audio space
2. Participate in hardware bring-up, peripheral drivers and communication, power and performance management, and optimization efforts
3. Bring up and test new hardware, develop and maintain peripheral drivers and communication systems, and optimize on-device power usage and runtime performance.
4. Develop functionality and services that operate efficiently in constrained environments and deliver large volumes of data with low-latency and high-bandwidth
5. Debug complex, system-level, multi-component issues that span multiple layers from bare metal to application
6. Profile performance problems and drive optimizations
7. Analyze, design, develop, and debug firmware for a wide variety of devices, including novel sensing and imaging systems, haptic devices, and audio prototypes
8. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, platform framework teams, partner firmware teams, and algorithm and model development teams

9. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
10. Currently in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
11. Demonstrated experience working across disciplines to drive optimal solutions
12. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

13. Experience in a large-scale C/C++ code base
14. Experience with real-time audio systems
15. Experience integrating machine learning into embedded applications
16. Experience with embedded DSP, CPU, and GPU architectures
17. Coding experience with peripherals such as UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO
18. Experience with lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers for debugging embedded systems at HW level
19. Experience working with embedded hardware platforms and exposure to concepts such as clock-level issues, interrupts, and polling
Public Compensation:
$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
