As a Refractive Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients undergoing refractive surgery. In this position, you will perform clinical and technical ophthalmic duties, assist physicians before, during and after refractive procedures and help maintain lasers and related equipment. You will greet and check in patients, coordinate appointment timing with technicians and providers and clearly explain refractive surgery procedures and expectations to patients. Working closely with a small, collaborative team of full-time and part-time providers, you will use strong critical thinking and multitasking skills while demonstrating empathy, flexibility and a team-oriented mindset to support both patients and fellow caregivers.
A caregiver in this role will work 7:30am to 4:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Receive and prepare patients for examination, treatment or surgery.
+ Calibrate, operate and troubleshoot lasers before, during and after refractive surgery.
+ Assist physicians with refractive surgical procedures.
+ Perform clinical and technical ophthalmic duties for high acuity patient populations that may include patients admitted to the hospital and/or those with critical patient care needs.
+ Perform routine screening tests.
+ Document patient information in the patient medical record.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Successful completion of the written exam for Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
+ Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) by Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)
+ Minimum of 1 year experience providing direct patient care under the supervision of an Ophthalmologist
Physical Requirements:
+ Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.
+ Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
+ May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
+ Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
Personal Protective Equipment:
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $18.88
Maximum hourly: $28.80
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
