Amazon AI Studios is seeking a founding Software Development Manager to build and lead the Derivative Content Creation team, which will architect the future of derivative content creation in the media and entertainment industry. In this ground-floor opportunity, you'll hire and develop world-class engineering talent while driving the technical vision for scalable platforms that power agentic AI systems, specialized LLMs, and generative AI tools transforming how trailers, promotional clips, marketing assets, and other derivative content is created at scale. Working at the intersection of distributed systems, machine learning, and media technology, you'll collaborate with diverse stakeholders—from research scientists to creative professionals to studio executives—translating complex technical challenges into innovative solutions that reshape the industry.

Key job responsibilities

-Build, hire, and develop a high-performing engineering team, establishing the culture, processes, and technical bar that will define the Derivative Content Creation team

-Drive the technical vision and roadmap for agentic AI platforms and LLM-based systems that power derivative content creation across Prime Video, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term scalability

-Own delivery of comprehensive ML platforms enabling model fine-tuning, distributed training, inference optimization, and automated monitoring workflows that scale to support diverse media workloads

-Lead strategic planning and execution for mission-critical systems at the intersection of distributed computing, AI/ML, and media technology while establishing engineering best practices

Partner with scientists, product managers, and creative professionals to define priorities, manage trade-offs, and translate requirements into scalable technical solutions

-Coach and develop engineers at all levels, fostering career growth while building a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and operational rigor

Influence technical decisions across Prime Video AI Studio, collaborating with peer managers and senior leadership to shape the organization's capabilities and direction

A day in the life

No two days are the same in this role. You'll balance people leadership (1:1s, coaching, hiring, performance development), strategic planning (roadmap prioritization, cross-team alignment, stakeholder management), and technical engagement (design reviews, architecture discussions, removing blockers). One day you might be interviewing candidates and coaching team members, the next aligning with scientists and creative professionals on priorities, and another presenting team strategy to senior leadership. The pace is fast and problems are ambiguous, but the impact is immediate—your team's work directly shapes how derivative content is created and experienced by millions.

About the team

The Derivative Content Creation team is a newly formed team within AI Studio Engineering org, building the future of derivative content creation for the media and entertainment industry. We're developing agentic AI platforms, specialized LLMs, and a comprehensive generative-AI tool suite that will transform how trailers, promotional clips, recaps, marketing assets, and other derivative content is created at scale. Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
