OVERVIEW:
Summer interns will complete a 10-week internship located full-time on site in Middletown, CT. Liberty Bank is proud to host a dynamic and diverse internship program designed to cultivate the next generation of banking and finance professionals. Through this immersive internship, participants will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals, contribute to real world projects and develop essential skills that will prepare them for successful careers in the financial services industry and beyond!
SUMMARY OF THE JOB:
We are seeking a motivated law student to support the Office of the General Counsel. The intern will work directly with our executive leaders, internal clients, vendors, and service providers, offering comprehensive legal support for the entire bank. This role provides broad exposure to the in-house legal function within the financial services industry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on federal and state banking regulations (such as FDIC guidelines), case law, and emerging financial statutes to provide actionable insights for senior leadership and internal clients.
+ Contract Management and Review: Support the reviewing and drafting of transactional documents, vendor agreements, and service provider contracts to ensure they meet internal compliance and risk standards.
+ Corporate Governance and Documentation: Assist in the preparation of corporate records, board meeting materials, and governance documents, while helping to maintain official bank policies and procedures.
+ Regulatory Compliance and Ad-Hoc Projects: Monitor and summarize regulatory updates to identify potential impacts on bank operations, and participate in special projects related to litigation support, intellectual property, or process improvements within the legal department.
+ Collaboration with Retail Team and Document Validation: Work closely with the Retail team to review and validate the accuracy of official documents, including but not limited to Powers of Attorney, Conservatorship orders, Estate documents, and Subpoenas. This responsibility involves ensuring that all submitted documentation meets legal and regulatory standards, supporting the Retail team in interpreting complex legal instruments, and providing guidance to internal stakeholders on proper procedures for handling sensitive customer matters.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
+ Currently enrolled in Law School (rising 2L or 3L).
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office
+ Familiarity with legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw)
+ Proven analytical skills
+ Proven critical thinking skills
+ Strong organizational skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ General Office Equipment
+ Keyboard Dexterity
+ Lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.
+ Ability to travel.
