Unique outpatient dietitian position focused on supporting the Thoracic Surgery department with a multidisciplinary team approach.
Job Summary:
As a part of the outpatient Nutrition Therapy team, you would provide an advanced level of nutrition expertise for the outpatient population within the Thoracic Surgery department, located on the UPMC Shadyside campus. This position includes a flexible, hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities:
+ Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
+ Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to referring providers and clinics & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
+ Contribute to maintaining standards of nutritional care current for the system.
+ Provide enhanced nutrition care to all patients including those within specialized patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
+ Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
+ Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
+ As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications.
+ Provide in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department, facility or system level annually.
+ Lead at least one annual department, facility or system based initiative or Quality Process Improvement activity through to completion annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence based practice.
+ Complete at least one professional contribution annually.
+ Knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
+ Promote consumer health, wellness and lifestyle management; deliver current, science based information on emerging trends.
+ Participate in CQI initiatives &/or departmental projects as required, with follow through to completion.
+ Demonstrate professional writing skills in preparing materials, presentations and other communications.
+ Effective in educating groups of diverse populations thru appropriate design and implementation of nutrition programs.
Qualifications
+ B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics 2 years clinical Nutrition experience as a registered dietitian required with minimum of one year in specialty area preferred OR Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics with 1 year clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration. Maintenance of registration as demonstrated by 75 CEU credits every 5 years. Specialty certification required and maintenance of specialty certification as specified by governing body. Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintenance of PA-LDN as demonstrated by 30 CEU credits every 2 years.
