    UPMC St. Margaret Hospital is seeking a Part-Time Senior Patient Care Technician to join our GI Lab team. In this role, you will assist patients in the pre- and post-procedural areas, obtain vital signs, and provide support to nurses with various tasks. Responsibilities include preparing rooms for the next patient after discharge, stocking supplies, transporting specimens to the lab throughout the day, and performing bedside point-of-care testing. This position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with no on-call, holiday, or weekend requirements. Candidates must meet the qualifications for the Senior Patient Care Technician role, and IV insertion experience is required.

    Compliance & Safety

    Patient Care Responsibilities

    + Transport cardiac-monitored patients within the hospital.

    + Perform clinical tasks as directed by RN, including:

    + Foley catheter insertion/removal and straight catheterization.

    + IV insertion/removal and dressing changes.

    + Complete clerical duties as required.

    Core Nursing Assistant Duties

    + Perform UPMC core responsibilities: blood glucose checks, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care.

    + Complete Basic Arrhythmia training and at least 4 advanced tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressings, bladder scan, IV removal/insertion).

    + Assist with patient procedures and daily living activities.

    + Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

    + Report patient status changes to RN and provide patient/family instruction under RN direction.

    + Apply, monitor, and remove restraints per protocol.

    Advanced Skills (as needed)

    + Maintain competency in advanced tasks such as:

    + Complex wound care

    + 12-lead EKGs

    + NG tube clamping/removal

    + Basic arrhythmia interpretation

    Teamwork & Communication

    + Report equipment malfunctions promptly.

    + Communicate effectively with other departments.

    + Foster respectful, professional relationships.

    + Respond to unit needs (call lights, phones, meal trays, patient transport).

    + Demonstrate cultural awareness and support workplace safety.

    + Build positive, productive relationships through accountability and enthusiasm.

    Medication Handling

    + May enter rooms where medications are stored or transport medications between departments when accompanying patients.

    + High school diploma or GED.

    + Must also have either:

    + a) 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician title, OR

    + b) 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or

    + c) 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

    + Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire

    + Successful completion of patient care technician senior class

    + Successful completion of eRecord training.

    + Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

    + Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireACLS preferredCPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
