The Executive Director, Healthcare Affordability, is a key leader within the Healthcare Affordability team, responsible for driving Aetna’s cost-of-care initiatives and monitoring short- and long-term medical cost trends. This role combines strategic oversight with clinical insight to develop innovative care models and deliver enterprise-level cost containment strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee Aetna’s Healthcare Affordability analysis and initiatives, ensuring execution of defined management processes and alignment with enterprise goals.
Collaborate with Medical Directors and clinicians to design and implement new care models targeting specific clinical programs.
Partner with Medical Economics, Actuarial, Finance, and Market Performance teams to analyze cost patterns, set utilization benchmarks, and identify actionable insights.
Leverage clinical expertise and operational knowledge to interpret rising medical cost trends and propose data-driven solutions.
Facilitate Healthcare Affordability business meetings, manage agendas, and provide progress updates to senior leadership.
Design scalable methodologies to enhance project and process management effectiveness across business units.
Directly manage a team of three Healthcare Affordability Strategists and oversee transition of SAI ownership to execution teams.
Serve as a trusted advisor and backup for the VP, Healthcare Affordability when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and strategic direction.
Qualifications
Approximately, 15 years in a large health insurer or managed care organization with deep expertise in cost containment strategies.
Strong understanding of the healthcare continuum, including Cost of Care, Medical Trend, Utilization Management, Care Management, Network, Value-Based Contracting, Payment Integrity, and Policy.
Proven ability to drive enterprise-level initiatives, influence across a matrixed organization, and present to senior leadership.
Proficiency in Medical Economics, trend analytics, and key financial metrics; ability to identify root causes and develop actionable solutions.
Experience in strategic and business planning, accounting, and financial analysis.

Education: Bachelors degree. Masters will be valued.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
