    Position Description

    The Golf Course Manager is a full-time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department. The primary duties of this position consist of performing administrative and supervisory duties involved in the operation of an 18-hole golf course.

     

    This position works varying shifts as needed, which may include nights & weekends.

     

    Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway. Metro Parks offers after school programs for children, activities for seniors (55+), cultural arts classes, dog parks, fitness classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, art galleries, and much more. It is the mission of Metro Parks and Recreation to sustainably and equitably provide everyone in Davidson County with an inviting network of parks and greenways that offer health, wellness and quality of life through recreation, conservation and community.     Typical Duties

    + Supervising, training, and assigning employee duties

    + Evaluating employee performance and correcting performance problems

    + Coordinating clubhouse and maintenance procedures, and ensuring daily procedures are performed

    + Operating of the POS including taking tee times, collecting green fees, cart fees and handling pro shop sales

    + Receiving and handling complaints

    + Inspecting the course, facilities, and equipment for unsafe conditions and ensuring corrective actions are taken

    + Setting up tournament play for groups

    + Calling in maintenance request

    + Making recommendations for hiring personnel, purchasing equipment and materials

    + Compiling and maintaining accurate records and receipts

    + Inventorying pro shop and overseeing concessions inventory, including making daily cash records, and daily cash deposits

    + Responsible for growing the game of golf through teaching and innovative marketing efforts done by staff

    Minimum Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in a golf course or related recreational operation, including two (2) years of supervisory responsibility.

     

    Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education. However, there will be no substitution for the supervisory experience.

     

    Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

     

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Knowledge of basic computer programs, such as Word, Excel, etc.

    + Knowledge of computerized point-of-sale systems used in retail sales

    + Knowledge of current golfing techniques, equipment, and golf course operation, including maintenance and clubhouse functions

    + Knowledge of golf tournament set-up and management.

    + Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, personnel and purchasing procedures

    + Ability to deal courteously with the public
