Payroll Specialist – Analytical & Excel Expert

Duration: 6-month Contract-to-Hire

Pay: $33.65/hr + benefits

About the Role

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Payroll Specialist to join our laid-back yet hardworking team. This role goes beyond standard payroll processing—you’ll dive into data, validate reports, and ensure accuracy through reconciliation and problem-solving. If you love working in Excel and have a knack for spotting discrepancies, this is the perfect fit.

What You’ll Do

+ Process bi-weekly payroll for 300+ multi-state employees using UKG/UltiPro.

+ Pull and validate payroll reports—manually recreate reports in Excel to confirm accuracy.

+ Perform payroll reconciliations and assist with journal entries (training provided).

+ Manage Time & Attendance and maintain precise payroll records.

+ Research and resolve payroll inquiries with a customer service mindset.

+ Support audits for retirement plans and workers’ compensation.

What We’re Looking For

+ Associates degree required, bachelor's degree preferred

+ 2–5 years payroll experience (full cycle, multi-state, 300+ employees).

+ Advanced Excel skills: Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data validation.

+ Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

+ Comfortable with payroll systems (UKG/UltiPro, Kronos; ADP helpful).

+ Accounting knowledge a plus (journal entries, reconciliations).

+ Team player: easygoing, collaborative, but focused on getting work done.

+ Curious, proactive, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Downey, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $33.65/hr.
