    Overview

     

    Join our dynamic team of experienced therapists in beautiful upstate NY. Racker provides progressive strength based preschool program; and early intervention and pre-school evaluations in Cortland, Tompkins and Tioga Counties. This position will be based in the Owego School Systems.

     

    Racker’s mission is to support people with disabilities and their families to lead fulfilling lives by providing opportunities to learn and be connected with others.

     

    The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for designing and implementing a strengths-based therapeutic program for each assigned child that will promote learning and a positive self-image all in accordance with Racker’s vision and mission. In this position, you will work independently, and act as a collaborative part of the larger educational and clinical team at Racker. The Speech-Language Pathologist will incorporate s ystems advocacy into their work to support students and the school community. The ideal candidate will p ossess a strong clinical basis , a ppreciation for total communication , and an ability to bring playfulness into the work.

Our classroom speech and language pathologists have an opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary team, receive mentoring and continuing education, and are provided with materials and technology for treatment and documentation.     Part time, contract work is available for speech and language pathologists on our interdisciplinary evaluation team or in our preschool classrooms. Our therapists have an opportunity to work with other evaluators/therapists and receive mentoring, as necessary. The number of hours/days/evaluations/therapy sessions can vary from a couple hours to several days of per week.

    Responsibilities

    + Design and implement an integrated therapeutic program for each assigned child that will promote learning and a positive sel f-image, reflecting Racker’s values as defined in its Mission and Vision

    + Develop and implement appropriate therapy programs for all individuals in the caseload for whom there is a medical prescription

    + Provide individual and group therapy as needed

    + Provide speech-language and hearing screenings as needed

    + Assist in interpreting the individual’s therapy program to the multidisciplinary team and counsel on carryover

    + Share the therapeutic perspective on how to address children’s goals; meet with team

    + Understand and utilize perspectives and techniques of other team members in program design and daily activities

    + Utilize problem-solving techniques to resolve differences and come to conclusion with team

    + Keep families fully informed of issues affecting their children and the program

    + Provide support and information that families need – directly, or by using team members, other resources of Racker or community resources

    + Prepare all required reports in a complete, timely and professionally written manner – including quarterly reports, discharge reports, IEP/IFSP check off and written information as needed for reimbursing and referral agencies

    + Keep daily records for all assigned individuals including anecdotal records on individual/group therapy progress

    Qualifications

    + Education/Certification: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology; New York State Certification as a Teacher of the Speech Hearing Handicapped; ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence; approved driver; valid New York State Driver’s License

    + Experience: Thos e in the Clinical Fellowship Year ( CFY ) will be considere d , Familiarity with multidisciplinary approaches to intervention and habilitation

    + Requirements:

    + Possible travel to various locations within multiple counties, using own valid, working vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license.

    + Use of  smartphone for documentation purposes required . Ownership/usage of personal smartphone is strongly preferred.
