BJC is hiring for a Outpatient/Professional Lead Coder. We are looking for previous coding experience in ancillary or ED. This role is responsible for being a mentor for the coders on the team.

At least one of the following certifications is required for this position: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CCA.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

The Lead Coder acts as liaison with hospital departments / committees regarding issues related to coding, and provides quality improvement monitoring for coding activities as well as ongoing training in relation to coding processes. Performs quality reviews of coded information. Provides coding instruction/resource to coding staff. At least one of the following certifications is required for this position: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CCA.

Responsibilities

+ Serves as coding liaison and provides education to other departments, providers and other customers. Represents Enterprise Coding on project teams and in meetings as needed.

+ Assists in coder development and growth through training and conducting concurrent and retrospective audits of coders.

+ Using critical thinking skills, analyzes and resolves coding related billing edits and denials.

+ Effectively collaborates with leadership and customers (Revenue Cycle Management, Hospital Departments, and other departments) as appropriate to resolve edits. Serves as subject matter expert for all coding related issues.

+ Performs coding functions and workflow oversight as needed.
