We are seeking a highly accomplished Principal Hardware Engineer to drive the technical direction, architecture, and execution of next‑generation precision analog and mixed‑signal instrumentation. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who excels at shaping long‑term technology strategy, architecting complex measurement systems, and elevating the capability of the broader engineering organization.
The Principal Engineer will define platform architectures and lead the development of hardware technologies used in SMUs, DMMs, picoammeters, nanovoltmeters, switch matrices, CV meters, pulse instrumentation, system‑level platforms, and next‑generation 4200‑series solutions. Beyond deep technical ownership, this role includes significant influence over engineering processes, mentorship of junior and mid‑level engineers, and hands‑on leadership of critical programs.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary architect for advanced precision analog and mixed‑signal hardware platforms.
- Lead definition of technology roadmaps, aligning long‑term component strategies, measurement methodologies, and platform architectures with product line objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, vendors, and design techniques to guide strategic hardware investments.
- Own system‑level design concepts including block diagrams, performance budgets, communication topologies, and measurement path architecture.
- Lead the design and verification of complex analog/digital circuits for ultra‑low‑noise, high‑accuracy measurement systems.
- Provide technical guidance on PCB layout strategy, signal integrity, grounding, shielding, and measurement path optimization.
- Drive requirements definition, architecture reviews, design reviews, and verification strategies across multiple programs.
- Mentor, develop, and coach junior and mid‑level engineers, helping build deep technical expertise across the organization.
- Promote engineering excellence by defining best practices in documentation, design processes, test approaches, and development workflows.
- Lead internal technical forums, design critiques, and architecture discussions to grow organizational capability.
- Influence and align teams across hardware, firmware, software, marketing, and operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of proven experience in analog/mixed‑signal hardware design, including ownership of complex hardware architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to define system architectures and lead platform‑level development.
- Deep expertise in low‑noise analog design, precision measurement circuitry, high‑resolution ADC/DAC systems, current/voltage measurement techniques, and related domains.
- Track record of mentoring engineers, establishing engineering standards, and leading technically diverse teams.
- Strong understanding of PCB layout best practices and SI/PI fundamentals.
- Experience collaborating across hardware, firmware, software, verification, and applications teams.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated ability to create detailed theory‑of‑operation documents, specifications, and error budgets.
- Experience with test & measurement instrumentation design and market‑driven technology planning.
- Background in developing reusable platforms and scalable product architectures.
