Purpose
Provides expert-level mechanical engineering leadership and technical expertise for the planning, design, and delivery of complex HVAC and mechanical systems. Responsible for developing construction documents, applying advanced engineering judgment, and overseeing designs through construction. Serves as a technical authority, mentor, and client-facing leader while supporting project delivery, quality assurance, business development, and profitable execution.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
+ Receive broad guidance related to key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters, exercising independent judgment in execution.
+ Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and standards across a wide range of complex assignments.
+ Serve as a technical authority and reviewer, ensuring work produced by engineers and designers meets quality, code, and company standards.
+ Mentor, train, and support the professional development of Design Engineers and junior staff.
+ Provide technical leadership across projects, promoting consistency, innovation, and best practices within the mechanical discipline.
At the Operational and Company Level
+ Actively market the firm’s mechanical engineering capabilities to establish new clients and strengthen relationships with existing clients.
+ Represent the project team in client communications, technical discussions, and issue resolution.
+ Collaborate with project managers and discipline leaders to align scope, schedule, budget, and technical delivery.
+ Support proposal development, project pursuits, and client presentations with technical leadership and subject matter expertise.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of standards, tools, and processes within the mechanical practice.
Do the Work
+ Perform all levels of mechanical (HVAC) system design in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and sound engineering principles.
+ Lead the design of complex mechanical systems and serve as engineer-of-record responsibilities as assigned.
+ Oversee mechanical designs through construction and project completion.
+ Apply broad technical knowledge to solve complex engineering challenges and support project decision-making.
+ Coordinate and communicate effectively with engineers, designers, project managers, and clients.
+ Conduct field observation visits to document existing conditions and support design accuracy.
+ Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to deliver designs efficiently and in alignment with project schedules.
+ Produce accurate and complete construction documents that meet milestone deadlines and established budgets.
+ Assist in developing construction cost estimates and opinions of probable construction cost for mechanical systems.
+ Attend coordination, design, and client meetings as required.
+ Define project specifications and support construction cost estimating efforts.
+ Respond to and resolve comments from clients, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and other reviewing entities; revise designs accordingly.
+ Review construction administration items, including shop drawings, RFIs, and change order proposals, when assigned.
+ Monitor and work within established project budgets and schedules.
+ Maintain and continue to develop working knowledge of applicable mechanical, energy, and building codes.
+ Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and related mechanical design and modeling tools.

Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or architectural Engineering required.
+ 10 or more (10+) years of relevant industry-related experience, in design of commercial, government, academic, R&D, high-rise multi-family, industrial and similar projects.
+ Knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, CHVAC/RHVAC, TraneTrace, and/or eQuest modeling software.
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
+ LEED accreditation strongly preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
+ Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
+ Mobility around an office environment.
+ Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
+ Occasionally outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
+ Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
+ Occasionally local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
+ Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
+ Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
+ Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
