As the Senior Manager, Network Engineering - WAAS you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of how Zayo delivers Wavelength services to our customers. This leadership position demands a seasoned professional with a strong background in network automation, market planning, roadmap management, budget approval, and user testing. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in telecommunications, demonstrating the ability to drive innovation and network efficiency in a rapidly changing and cost competitive industry. Strong project management and organization skills are necessary to thrive in this role. Ability to communicate effectively and articulate technical information is an absolute must. This individual will be proficient in API Design and Testing, Network Automation / Orchestration via Element Management Systems and home grown systems, DWDM engineering and design best practices, as well have experience with a broad list of network hardware manufacturers to include, but not limited to; Ciena and Nokia, inclusive of legacy Infinera.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering and Network Automation Manager specializing in Optical Networks. This senior-level leadership role involves directly and indirectly overseeing diverse roles, inclusive of engineering, project management, developers, and architects, responsible for the design and implementation of advanced optical network solutions, including Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems for both metro and long-haul applications. The ideal candidate will ensure the successful deployment and commissioning of network and system solutions while executing a comprehensive roadmap. Leadership experience is critical to this role, as you will be responsible for guiding and mentoring a diverse team of professionals.
Responsibilities
+ Core Competencies
+ Provide leadership, vision and direct oversight for all optical engineering teams and people managers in the design and deployment of optical network infrastructure as well as automation systems and services.
+ Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering teams, encouraging professional development and skill enhancement. Mentor and develop emerging engineering leaders, promoting leadership skills and effective management practices across teams.
+ Drive deployment of multiple strategic projects including infrastructure build outs, capability enablement, development, user testing, and data integrity.
+ Directly support the cross functional teams by providing leadership and prioritization, removing roadblocks, and implement process and system improvements to improve efficiency.
+ Develop and document program operation for all initiatives. Provide regular reporting on performance.
+ Manage vendors to provide products and development services needed to perform groups’ activities and execute against roadmap.
+ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements to inform strategic decisions and engineering practices.
+ Customer Service Delivery Design and Engineering:
+ Oversee the automated implementation of customer service orders leveraging Zayo’s wavelength network
+ Identify infrastructure dependencies and own the implementation of needed facilities to deliver services to our customers in a timely manner
+ Develop enhancements to standards and tooling to improve delivery efficiency, visibility, and performance of Zayo’s services.
+ Collaborate with supporting organizations (field technicians, OSP, ISP, etc) to quickly and correctly execute critical dependencies for timely deployment of infrastructure.
+ Network Implementation and Automation Strategy:
+ Execute against Zayo’s capacity planning strategy to ensure sufficient network capacity is available for service installations and to meet evolving customer demands.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network plans with business objectives and market demands.
+ Execute Zayo’s automation vision to reduce level of effort for delivery of wavelength services.
+ Work closely with supporting teams to ensure timely execution and implementation of infrastructure and systems necessary to support roadmap.
+ Collaborate with product development teams to align network enhancements with product offerings and customer requirements.
+ Perform extensive user experience and performance testing against the solution to ensure functionality aligns with project goals.
+ Budget Management:
+ Maintain capital forecasts for planned network projects based on measured run rates and calculated exhaust dates of capacity.
+ Monitor and control expenditures throughout the project lifecycle to ensure projects stay on budget.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
+ A minimum of 8 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership role focused on optical networks.
+ Proven expertise in the design and deployment of DWDM systems and optical network infrastructure, specifically with platforms such as Infinera, Ciena, and Nokia.
+ Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable plans.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
+ Financial acumen and experience managing budgets for large-scale network projects.
+ Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Estimated base salary range: $106,500 - $163,900 USD/annually.
The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
