Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will serve as a technical Product Manager shaping the future of IBM’s OpenSearch offering. You will own product direction for core OpenSearch capabilities, working deeply with engineering on architecture, scalability, performance, and extensibility. You will translate complex customer and platform requirements into a clear product strategy that balances open-source innovation with enterprise needs, driving adoption, differentiation, and long-term growth.

Your Key Responsibilities:

* OpenSearch Product Ownership:

Own a core OpenSearch product area, defining product direction and roadmap for technically complex capabilities such as indexing, query performance, scalability, security, and extensibility. Drive adoption and growth across both open-source and enterprise distributions.

* Engineering Partnership and Execution:

Partner closely with engineering to plan, prioritize, and execute work across the full product development lifecycle. Operate as a hands-on, technically fluent Product Manager who can engage meaningfully in design discussions, tradeoffs, and sequencing decisions.

* Platform Innovation and Technical Stewardship:

Drive innovation through a roadmap grounded in real customer workloads and system-level constraints. Balance new feature development with performance, reliability, and technical debt reduction in a large-scale distributed system.

* Cross-Functional Product Leadership:

Lead product strategy by aligning engineering, design, sales, and field teams around clear priorities and outcomes. Ensure product decisions support IBM’s broader data and AI strategy while maintaining a strong, independent OpenSearch product vision.

* Ecosystem and Open Source Engagement:

Work with open-source contributors, partners, and internal IBM teams to strengthen the OpenSearch ecosystem. Identify opportunities to extend the platform, integrate with adjacent technologies, and enable new enterprise use cases.

Required technical and professional expertise

Required Experience:

* Deep expertise in technical product management for complex platforms such as distributed systems, data infrastructure, or developer-focused products.

* Strong ability to work deeply with engineering teams on architecture, performance tradeoffs, and system design, translating technical concepts into clear product direction.

* Demonstrated success owning product strategy and execution across the full product development lifecycle.

* Track record of incorporating customer feedback and real-world usage data into prioritization and roadmap decisions.

* Ability to influence and align diverse stakeholder groups through clear communication and technical credibility.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Preferred Experience:

* Experience with search engines, analytics platforms, databases, or large-scale data systems.

* Prior Product Management experience in a cloud-native, Agile development environment, with exposure to Kubernetes and public cloud platforms.

* Experience working with or alongside open-source communities, including managing the balance between community innovation and enterprise requirements.
