    SUMMARY

    The primary Purpose of the Research Investigator position is to provide supervision, special training to technical personnel, and/or highly technical work in medical and related research projects, as well as to apply technical expertise to coordinate, design, and carry out research projects while following standard operating procedures for the laboratory.

    Ideal Candidate Statement

    The ideal candidate for the Research Investigator position will possess a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology, with proven experience in both in vitro and in vivo assays. They should demonstrate exceptional organizational skills to plan, execute, and analyze complex research projects, including the ability to prepare high-quality data presentations for publications. A successful candidate will have hands-on expertise in laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and training of junior personnel. Familiarity with cancer cell line maintenance, xenograft studies, and handling hazardous materials is essential. The candidate should be adept at troubleshooting experimental discrepancies, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to standard operating procedures. Strong communication skills, proficiency in data analysis tools, and a collaborative mindset are critical for contributing to a dynamic research environment.

     

    Salary Range - $59,000 (Min) - $74,000 (Mid) - $89,000 (Max)

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

    Laboratory Operations & Equipment

    Ensures that daily operations are maintained in adherence with policies, to include: order placement, equipment maintenance, safety, and training other research personnel. Helps laboratory manager teach techniques to graduate students, surgical fellows, and other research personnel.

    Research Projects & Data

    Plans, organizes, directs, and participates in research experiments. Manually and promptly records research data. Analyzes data, prepares graphs, charts, and/or tables for publications. Knowledge of word processing programs and spreadsheets. Discusses results from each assay to ensure accuracy and comparability with previous results of similar assays and reconciles discrepancies as soon as possible. Reads and discusses selected literature with supervisor and other laboratory personnel. Participates in lab presentations.

    Procedure Adherence and Implementation

    Maintains lab stock cancer cell lines for cell culture and mouse xenograft studies, to include: growing, expanding, and freezing utilizing sterile techniques. Ability to carry out and learn new in vitro and in vivo assays in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Some procedures will require the use of hazardous substrates. Must maintain appropriate environmental surveys for radioactivity and other hazardous materials. Must maintain records of hazardous chemicals and reagents as required. Handles patient tissues, with familiarity of safety procedures.

    *EDUCATION*

    * Required: Bachelor's Degree Natural sciences or related field.

    * Preferred: Master's Degree natural sciences or related field.

    *WORK EXPERIENCE*

    * Required: Five years scientific or experimental research work or three years with preferred degree.
