    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Seeking a highly motivated and skilled scientist with laboratory analysis experience to join a diverse and dynamic group of scientists. This position is in the Corporate R&D group. The job function provides product support to a wide range of Company business units, particularly Animal Nutrition and Health (ANH) and Human Nutrition and Health (HNH) in providing support to product development and analysis to meet Customer needs. This research position also involves testing nutrients in complex matrices including encapsulates, flavors, creamers, mineral chelates, lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins. In addition, support testing of feed-grade choline and related products. The work also entails focused technical collaborations with team members in analyses including characterization of microencapsulates, coatings and actives using a variety of instrumentation to impact product lines. The scientist will be required manage some research projects, both short term and long term. This scientist will also collaborate with participants in projects from idea conception through product commercialization, in dynamic and cross-functional teams.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    + Provide solutions to challenging product/material problems using analytical chemistry tools including liquid and gas chromatography, spectroscopy, microscopy, titrations, etc.

    + Perform method development, spectral interpretation, and instrument troubleshooting preventive maintenance (PMs).

    + Provides support to QC teams in method development and method transfer to meet new product challenges.

    + Maintain high standard of documentation of work, and communication of summarized reports to Manager.

    + Conducts reverse engineering on competitive products.

    + May supervise other chemists, technicians or interns in the completion of projects.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    + Minimum BS degree in Chemistry or equivalent

    + MS degree preferred

    + 5-7 year-work experience in industry, particularly R&D environment

    + Experience with using analytical tools including GC, DSC, GC/MS, MP/AES, HPLC, UPLC, RI, FTIR, IC, Polarimeter, Texture Analyzer, Biochemical Analyzer, and auto titrators

    + Method development in chromatography (HPLC, GC/MS, IC) is desirable

    + Strong oral and written communication skills

    + Experience with materials used in foods and fine chemicals industry such as hydrocolloids, polymers, metabolites, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids are useful

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    + Work with chemicals in laboratory and plant environment, requiring appropriate personal protective equipment

    + May require travel, including air as needed

    + Prepares and analyzes data, operates computer, laboratory instruments, and equipment

    + Combination of office and laboratory/manufacturing environments
