    Job Description

    Carries out the duties and responsibilities supportive of and complementary to the welfare and care of the OMFS patients

    Qualifications

    Two to four years dental assisting experience preferred.

     

    High school graduate or equivalent.

     

    Certified Dental Assistant from Accredited School

     

    Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSBI

    Responsibilities

    1.Performs chair side assisting in all phases of dentistry and oral surgery

    2.Takes and develops all necessary dental radiographs in a timely and efficient manner

    3.Seats patient in assigned treatment room, takes vital signs, performs intake in EMR

    4.Prepares examination rooms for patient care and procedures in accordance with proper techniques established by hospital and infection control policies

    5.Checks and maintains inventory of supplies in the clinical area and operatories

    6.Monitors expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy

    7.Maintains proper logs

    8.Performs routine maintenance/cleaning of clinic equipment on a daily/weekly basis

    9.Maintains a clean and orderly setting in the laboratory

    10.Reports all broken or malfunctioning equipment to the Practice Manager

    11.Management of daily instrument inventory including preparing instruments to go to CSS and receipt of clean instruments returned from CSS according to approved HLD process

    12.Pours molds from alginate impressions as directed by the dentist or surgeon

    13.Reports any patient conflicts or clinic problems to the Practice Manager

    14.Keeps daily log of related laboratory work sent out and received in

    15.Maintains daily log of panorex and CBCT scans taken

    16.Prepares dental supplies for OR prosthetic and oral surgery procedures

    17.Assists with completion of patient related OMFS forms and documents

    18. Assists with surgical scheduling of OMFS patients

    19. May scribe for surgeon in EMR

    20. Provides instruction and information to patients

    21. Assumes clerical responsibilities of the clinic where necessary

    22. Greets and registers patients, prepares and processes appropriate forms, directs patients to appropriate areas and arranges transportation needs

    23. Screens incoming calls, takes and responds to messages, as well as responds to inquiries regarding department procedures, services and programs

    24.Schedules appointments and completes pre-registration via telephone including insurance verification and full patient demographics collection over the telephone or in person using computerized system(s) with accountability for the integrity of the data

    25.Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary, to include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, discharge summaries, referral information

    26. Performs routine cash collections at time of service.

    27. Completes forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. Assists in the creation and maintenance of medical charts.

    28.Retrieves lab, pathology and diagnostic testing, and operative reports and data from computer systems

    29. Checks, verifies and updates insurance information utilizing internal or electronic sources.

    30.Obtains and documents managed care referrals, required pre-certifications and authorizations as necessary

    31.Supports surgical or procedure scheduling in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator or other similar role(s) verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms

    32. Demonstrates the ability to set priorities and organize work. Reports and resolves problems effectively. Identifies and reports staffing problems to appropriate manager or administrator

    33. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills exhibited by courtesy, cooperative spirit and tact when interacting with employees, patients and visitors

    Compensation Statement

    Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $31.2977 - $33.5063 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
