Position Summary:
Assists the Department Director with the responsibility and accountability for the management of the unit. Emphasis on independent decision making related to the nursing process. Demonstrates the ability to provide consistent direction for all nursing personnel in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating nursing activities.
Qualifications:
A. Education:
Holds a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.
B. Training and Experience:
1. Minimum 4 years full time RN experience with one year in a defined leadership position preferred.
2. Current BLS Certification that follows the American Heart Association guidelines upon hire or transfer to department.
3. Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire required
4. One year of RN experience in acute care setting preferred.
5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months of hire or transfer to department.
6. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 12 months of hire or transfer to department.
7. EKG course within one year of hire or transfer to department
8. Moderate sedation competency completed within 3 months of hire or transfer to department
9. CNOR preferred.
10. Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) preferred.
11. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer to department:
• Aseptic technique
• Gowning and gloving
• Surgical hand scrub
• Surgical skin prep
• Role of the circulator in surgical case preparation
• Role of the circulator in preoperative patient assessment
• Role of the circulator in intraoperative patient care
• Role of the circulator in postoperative patient care
• Daily supervision of unit and staff
• Directs all aspects of daily procedures
• Makes all daily staff assignments
• Reports to Director Outpatient Surgical Services.
