Description
The Sr. Community Pre-Vocational Specialist will provide assistance to the Community PreVoc Coordinator and direct supports, education and training to build and expand vocational skills, habits, and personal outcomes related to the world of work.
This position is responsible for supporting individuals with disabilities to maximize their vocational skills within their community. Using a person-centered approach, will provide opportunities for the individuals to learn and practice job skills that will prepare them for future community employment opportunities. The staff will employ a variety of diverse skill instruction and training to teach the individuals the soft skills required to be able to secure and maintain employment. The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following items listed below:
+ Ensure services and supports are designed to support an individual to prepare for employment via: exploring vocational interests/opportunities, developing soft skills, enhancing safety skills and practicing work skills through a variety of volunteer/work experiences.
+ Network with community resources to build individualized vocational experiences.
+ Transport and accompany individuals on community experiences.
+ Provide job readiness and soft skills training in group settings.
+ Research/develop educational materials, activities and lessons which promote the development of soft skills, safety skills and community awareness necessary for employment.
+ Foster, promote and model positive vocational skills and habits / use role play and mock scenarios to reinforce concepts and build skills.
+ Craft and implement one to one individualized vocational activities to further promote career exploration, skill assessment and travel training.
+ Create and implement daily schedules for staffing, work experiences, activities, etc. and ensure the daily operations run smoothly in the Coordinators absence.
+ Develop teaching tools such as: task lists, visual directions, time lines, etc. for participants to use as a reference at host businesses.
+ Prepare for, attend and participate in life plan meetings.
+ Develop, review, revise and distribute staff action plans and IPOPs according to life plan specifications.
+ Assist with training and mentoring new community Pre-Voc specialists.
+ Provide oversight to individuals during service hours to ensure their health and safety.
+ Perform required duties in a productive and safe manner.
+ Act as a professional role model to individuals.
+ Perform other appropriate job-related activities as required by immediate supervisor and as circumstances warrant.
+ Complete all mandatory annual trainings timely.
+ Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
+ Achieve NYS DSP Core Competencies in all 7 goal areas
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must in this highly visible position.
HOURS: 40/Monday through Friday - 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
STARTING SALARY: $23.17 to $ 25.49 per hour
Minimum Requirements
+ High School Diploma required
+ Minimum three year’s working with individuals with I/DD in a vocational capacity.
+ Valid NYS Driver’s License that meets the insurable criteria of the Agency’s insurance carrier.
+ Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency.
+ Must be CPR and First Aid certified.
+ Must be able to work independently and personify professionalism.
