Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine. HITS provides clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.
The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division is responsible for more than 350 clinical and revenue cycle applications that clinicians, staff, and patients rely upon every day. The CRC team has subdivisions that support inpatient, ambulatory, departmental, and revenue cycle areas across Michigan Medicine (MM). CRC also oversees many of the major IT platforms and applications such as the electronic health record, virtual care, pharmacy, imaging, oncology, registration, document management, billing, and much more. The CRC team is highly relied upon across the healthcare system and collaborates with operational partners to provide excellent service to the MM staff. Staff within CRC interact with customers on a regular basis by implementing and configuring workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules or software while also ensuring they complete adequate change control and testing processes. Team members work on a vast array of projects that propel MM into the future.
Job Summary
Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) is seeking a Business Systems Staff Specialist to join the HITS Enterprise Clinical IT Leadership team and lead complex, strategic projects on our Epic electronic health record platform. You will focus on integrating AI and predictive models into the Epic platform, enacting and facilitating standardized intake, design, and implementation processes to increase capacity. You will work with clinicians, researchers, application developers, data scientists, and IT professionals to solve clinical and business problems. Strong cross-functional collaboration and positive engagement skills are essential to your success in this role. You will report directly to the HITS Director of Enterprise Clinical IT.

Responsibilities*
+ Lead integration of AI and predictive models into Epic, ensuring alignment with Michigan Medicine goals and HITS standards.
+ Serve as Epic application technical expert to solve complex clinical and business problems, promoting Epic native features and integrating with vendor and internally developed models and software alike.
+ Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, facilitating documentation of workflow and technical scope, objectives, and architecture.
+ Collaborate across clinical, research, and technical teams, acting as liaison between Epic teams, AI developers, and data scientists.
+ Identify, compare, and evaluate various courses of action to make informed decisions that balance technical and organizational needs.
+ Participate in governance and committees (e.g., Clinical Intelligence Committee, Epic clinical and revenue cycle advisory committees, etc.) to guide strategic AI adoption.
+ Design and standardize intake and implementation plans for AI model integration into the Epic platform, including documentation of processes and specifications.
+ Support quality assurance and validation of AI models, partnering with data scientists and business owners to ensure compliance and performance.
+ Promote knowledge sharing and organizational capacity building through communication and training across teams.
Required Qualifications*
Staff Specialist
+ Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience
+ 8+ years of healthcare IT-related experience
+ Multiple Epic Certifications, spanning several venues of patient care and data models
+ Project Management experience in leading complex technical projects and strategic initiatives
Senior Level
+ Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ 5+ Years of healthcare IT-related experience
Desired Qualifications*
+ Extensive experience with Epic systems and healthcare IT, including module implementations and upgrades, Reporting Workbench, and Epic Cognitive Computing Platform.
+ Excellent collaboration skills, including the ability to document clearly and work with diverse teams across technical, clinical, and operational areas.
+ Experience with AI model integration and predictive analytics-driven workflow implementation.
+ Familiarity with data engineering and analytics tool sets (SQL, Python for data validation, feature/label mapping) and Epic data assets (Clarity/Caboodle).
