Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The School of Professional Studies seeks an accomplished and visionary Senior Instructional Designer to lead large-scale instructional design and digital learning initiatives that directly impact student success. This senior role drives the design, development, and implementation of major online and technology-enhanced learning projects that help reduce DFW rates and shorten time to degree across the university.
As a strategic leader and expert practitioner, the Senior Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty, academic departments, instructional designers/technologists, and campus partners to create high-quality, scalable learning experiences. The role provides project leadership, cross-unit coordination, and instructional design expertise to support curriculum innovation, evidence-based teaching, and the expansion of online and hybrid learning.
This position requires advanced skill in instructional design, learning science, and faculty development, as well as a proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders. The Senior Instructional Designer will partner closely with teams across SPS—including Program Management and Learner Solutions—to advance digital learning initiatives and deliver transformative academic experiences.

This is a senior role that engages with stakeholders across all levels of the institution. The work involves shaping the design and redesign of learning environments and instructional systems, advancing new pedagogical approaches, and supporting a culture of teaching excellence. A substantial portion of the position is devoted to instructional activities and leadership of academic support functions that contribute directly to student success.
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ Minimum of Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization (Instructional Systems Technology, Instructional Design & Technology, Learning Design & Technology, or a comparable field); OR a terminal degree or equivalency of a terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization, with a demonstrated record of sustained achievement in instructional design.
+ Must have at least 9+ years of documented ID experience in a comparable role in Instructional Design & Technology.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Four (4) of the nine (9) required years experience in higher education preferred. College teaching preferred. Experience providing support to faculty, trainers, or curriculum developers is desired; experience in conducting educational research, including quantitative and qualitative research skills.
+ Knowledge regarding the appropriate hard and soft technologies and their applications used in redesign of courses for online environments; ability to provide and receive constructive feedback and to work in a team-oriented environment required; ability to organize a program responsive to instructional needs and goals and the ability to manage complex projects with different stakeholders.
+ Strong knowledge of instructional systems design ( ISD ) methods, online course development, Quality Matters design and evaluation processes, instructional strategies and methodologies, instructional technologies, media selection/design, evaluation, needs analysis, scholarship of teaching and learning, learning theory, and research design in the social sciences required, relevant certifications in learning analytics, project management, process improvement.
+ Experience with state, federal, and accreditation standards, policies, and compliance requirements for online delivery. Exceptional communications skills are required, in both writing and public speaking/presentation; attention to detail.
