    The Visual & Promotional Creative Manager is responsible for changing the course of Meijer’s customer behavior through breakthrough ideas and empowering a team to effectively build them into an effective visual merchandising and promotional creative experience, driving traffic and purchase intention among our customers for low prices and events, seasonal destinations, local and DEI experiences, among others.

     

    This role requires a quick-thinking strategic and creative mindset that is customer obsessed – continually demonstrates learning from and influencing partners across the organization to move challenges, insights and opportunities into action through the most effective creative and visual merchandising strategies, art direction and experience for our customers across all forms of media.

     

    This role owns all in-store visual merchandising, signage, and in-store creative/messaging, in addition to local, DEI and value-oriented program and holds close connection points to the Creative Manager, Campaigns and merchandising presentation teams in bringing these to life.

     

    This role is responsible for overseeing and inspiring a team to produce outstanding creative development over the entire customer experience, across the Meijer brand portfolio – and through fully integrated creative experiences.

     

    This role should be a visionary for our brand and customer communication, constantly seeking better ways to create connection, build experiences and action with our customers. This requires the ambition to innovate and courage to share new ideas that influence partners to act.

     

    The position is a leader of leaders - grows creative and talent development across an Associate Creative Manager, Designer 3, Designer 2. This role also collaborates closely within marketing - campaigns planning, campaigns creative, media, space planning/merchandising presentation, merchandising, operations, and agency partners to bring ideas to life.

     

    The candidate should be versed in moving at the pace of retail while navigating a complex organization to bring simple, effective ideas to life. A critical function of this role fostering a culture of a high solutions-orientation to produce creative on short timelines. Requires presenting and influencing all audiences.

    What You'll be Doing:

    + Accountable for the bringing creative vision to life across our Meijer brand portfolio, through an onsite creative team, marketing partnerships and external agencies. Ideas and creative development are expected to influence all aspects of in-store communication, visual merchandising, print and promotional/value-oriented messaging, resulting in metrics that achieve brand/business objectives and reach financial targets.

    + Builds and fosters a highly positive and productive team culture – at a fast pace – for the development of the best quality of creative ideas. Continually inspires and motivates team by connection to business purpose, customer insights, strategy, and the results of the biggest, best brand potential.

    + Leader of leaders, leads and develops a team of Designer 2, Designer 3, across a highly diverse scope of in-store, visual merchandising and promotional assignments – in support of every business and service area for Meijer.

    + Champion of ideas and brand-building, applies brand identity and discipline for our brand and business areas. Identifies strategic opportunities of how we bring them to life, with much focus to the in-store environment. This includes continual innovation, influence, and partnership across the organization to improve our customer experience through outstanding creative, visual merchandising, merchandising, signage and fixturing solutions.

    + Expert in creative problem solving under pressure – bringing in-store customer journey, signage, visual merchandising, brand identity and fixture solutions to rally a cross-functional team to the best customer response.

    + Responsible for creating and influencing visual merchandising and creative development across the Meijer brand portfolio – Meijer Supercenter, Meijer Grocery, Meijer Express.

    + Leadership in creating the in-store customer experience for new stores, remodels, competitive incursions.

    + Effectively navigates a large, ambiguous and complex organization with speed to creatively solve across a broad diversity of business and brand subject matter, including brand (grand openings, grand openings, community investment, diversity & inclusion, grand openings), our business (merchandising, own brand) and our service areas (grand openings, digital shopping, Meijer credit card, HR) and translating them into customer experiences that create meaningful action.

    + Role requires open, collaborative partnerships across peers and leaders to build cohesive customer experiences. This role partners most closely with the Creative Manager, Marketing Campaigns, Merchandise Presentation, Merchandising and Operations. Must be open to leading brainstorms, feedback sessions and influencing cross-functionally.

    + Develops Associate Creative Manger and a team of Designers to bring creative solutions across a fast-paced and versatile business environment. Coaches the team to develop the best idea quality and bring the brightest work environment. Places focus on growing new leader(s) within the creative marketing organization – development of associate managers and helping them respond to overcome challenges to creative process, feedback and team development.

    + Responsible for fostering outstanding collaboration with multiple external agency partners and/or internal teams to build, advance and execute the Meijer brand through business and brand campaigns – creative agency, photography & video partners.

    + Development as a leader, practice and development of other leaders in an agile work environment for creative design.

    + Responsible for presenting new ideas to different levels of audiences and interpreting feedback to strengthen concepts across the team.

    + Accountable for seeking new opportunities to advance creative design, process and team collaboration.

    + Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.

    + Ability to work independently on strategic issues with different audiences, capable of managing complex projects.

    + Owns multi-million dollar team budget, supported by management of it through Associate Managers.

    + Accountable for accurate, on-time completion of all creative

    + Responsible for hiring, coaching and leading growing and a large and diverse group of creative team members.

    What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

    + Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, design.

    + 10+ years of experience in design, retail experience preferred

    + 5+ years of specialized experience preferred.

    + Graphic, Print & Digital design software with knowledge and understanding of branding and key marketing principles.

    + Project Management; Strong team and cross-functional management, time management.

    + Decision making is critical, while managing ambiguity of solutions that might not exist or require innovative problem-solving.

    + Responsible for growth and development across a diverse group of team members.

    + Capable of assessing talent and skill set of creative team members, and assigning appropriate assignments, in partnership with project management.

    + Communicates effectively at all levels and among diverse audiences.

    + Juggles diverse and scope of work and priorities, with effective delegation.

    + Rapidly and easily adjust direction as priorities shift.

    + High creative instinct and ability to effectively communicate purposeful feedback.

    + Versed in cultural, creative and media trends.
