Job Description:
Are you looking for interesting and meaningful work, a fun and flexible atmosphere, and opportunities to learn, grow, and excel? If so, Schnabel Engineering is seeking a temporary full-time intern with the Geosciences group in Greensboro, NC. We are looking for a motivated candidate to join our team of engineering geologists to support our efforts on interesting and challenging dam, tunnel, and geohazard projects across the United States.
The emphasis for this position is broadening the intern’s practical knowledge and experience by applying geologic principles to real engineering problems under the supervision of senior Geo-Professionals. The position is anticipated to be held from **mid-May through mid-August of 2026** . Other timeframes may be considered, if necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Performing geological and geotechnical field work including assisting with geological data collection and observing geotechnical subsurface explorations.
+ Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD, GIS, and Leapfrog, and/or other mapping and analysis software, as applicable.
+ Provide support to geologists and engineers preparing geological and geotechnical proposals and reports.
+ Travel will be required.
Required Skills/Experience:
+ Current enrollment in a geology bachelor’s or master’s program; other relevant engineering or science programs may be considered.
+ Possess good oral and written communication skills including note taking in the field and computer literacy.
+ Ability to work with direction as part of a team and ask questions.
+ Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.
+ Desire and willingness to work outdoors.
+ Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
+ Ability to work long days in the field of up to 12 hours.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
+ Interest in geology or geotechnical investigation for civil engineering applications.
+ Prior professional/scientific work or summer intern work in a related field.
Other Requirements:
+ Must possess a valid driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job.
+ Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check.
+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
The compensation range for this role is between $18.00 to $25.00. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
