Position Summary:
Responsible to inspect, diagnose and perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repair of diesel semi trucks and trailers (to include, but not limited to overhaul and repair of engines, transmissions, cooling systems, steering systems, air systems, trailer refrigeration systems)
Ensures compliance with company safety policies and procedures as well as legal regulations. Assists lesser experienced mechanics as necessary and serves as the subject matter expert for the shop on diesel equipment.
What You'll Do:
+ Serves as subject matter expert for the shop on diesel equipment
+ Assesses the preventive maintenance schedule to ensure equipment maintenance is completed on schedule to avoid major repairs and/or equipment down time
+ Meets with supervisor/lead to discuss work orders and priorities, proactively identifies any issues or conditions which might affect the operation of the equipment
+ Utilizes maintenance systems to ensure timely and accurate documentation of maintenance and repair work performed
+ Identifies and orders replacement parts, ensuring that the parts ordered are correct and complete at the time of order. May assist more junior mechanics with parts ordering
+ Maintains current knowledge of regulations and laws within assigned area (i.e. DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.) to ensure shop compliance
+ Prepares and/or completes DOT inspections + related paperwork accurately and timely
+ Effectively collaborates with other departments as appropriate
What You'll Need:
+ High school or equivalent (GED) (Required)
+ Valid Driver’s License (required)
+ CDL-A (Required)
+ Basic Mechanic tools and toolbox (strongly preferred)
+ Must be able to demonstrate and obtain SpartanNash certification for the safe driving of material handling equipment, tractors, and trailers (required)
+ Heavy Duty Air Brake Certified (required)
+ DOT Inspector Certified (Required)
+ Journeyman Diesel Mechanic card (required) with 608 cert (required)
+ Previous refrigerated trailer (reefer) experience (Required)

Must frequently sit, walk and stand, use hands to handle, grasp, and twist objects, tools, or controls, and use both feet for repetitive movements as in operating foot controls. Must frequently walk, talk, crouch, kneel, bend, stoop, twist, and reach with the hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance as needed. While performing the duties of this position, employees are subject to a warehouse environment and may frequently be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity based on assignment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, days and night hours, and overtime as necessary and as assigned, and must be able to work in the condition specified for 8-10 hours shift as assigned. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
