ABOUT THE MUSEUM:

The Florida Holocaust Museum (The FHM) honors the memory of millions of innocent men, women and children who suffered or died in the Holocaust. One of the largest Holocaust museums in the country, The FHM is dedicated to teaching members of all races and cultures to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of human life in order to prevent future genocides. One of only three American Alliance of Museum (AAM) accredited Holocaust museums, The FHM boasts an outstanding collection of contemporary visual art as well as the largest Holocaust research library in the Southeastern United States. Its permanent exhibition highlights the artifacts, photographs, documents and testimonies of Holocaust Survivors and Liberators who came to settle in Florida. ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Visitor Services Associate (VSA) is one of the first Museum contacts visitors have at The FHM. The person in the position staffs the Admissions desk and the Museum Store. The VSA demonstrates excellent customer service skills when interacting with and assisting visitors, selling tickets/scanning pre-purchased tickets, explaining safety protocols, providing directions, answering questions, and being responsible for day-to-day tasks in admissions and the Museum Store (Store). The VSA will perform similar functions, including selling merchandise in the store. VSAs report to the Manager of Visitor Experience and Supervisor of Visitor Experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Have a strong understanding to accurately operate the museum point of sale system (Blackbaud/Altru)
  • Follow detailed instructions related to opening, closing, general Altru operational procedures ensuring accuracy with money, data entry and deposits
  • Restock Store inventory, assist with product merchandising, maintain cleanliness, order and appearance in the Store and displays, the Admissions desk and claim check area
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of current reciprocal and discount promotions
  • Perform accurate and complete tasks within the Altru database as they relate to guests/visitors and member admissions, other purchases, and inventory maintenance
  • Answer telephone calls at Admissions and Store, assist with ticket purchasing and provide accurate answers to frequent questions
  • Be knowledgeable of the FHM offerings and merchandise to drive sales using effective upselling
  • Communicate effectively in written, oral group and person-to-person communications and interactions providing excellent customer service, conveying information, and selling tickets, memberships, and merchandise
  • Promote a positive visitor experience by providing a brief instructional and educational greeting/overview and introduction to The Museum mobile app
  • Provide information to visitors while maintaining a professional attitude which reflects The FHM mission and supports an initiative-taking and positive initial and impression of the visit
  • Work as a member of the team by taking initiative, problem solving, operating in conjunction with other personnel and by working independently of direct supervision
  • Monitor and control visitor traffic pattern flow in The Museum
  • Check in group tours and provide information ensuring a smooth entry process
  • Perform administrative and office support activities for museum personnel which may include fielding telephone calls, receiving and directing visitors, distributing information for personnel, staffing events and word processing
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others in a positive, friendly manner
  • Exercise good judgement
  • Capable of basic math equations such as discount and tax calculations
  • Ability to manage cash/credit card transactions
  • Capable of learning and using new computer software and technologies
  • Ability to use Microsoft Suite, especially Word and Excel
  • Must have basic knowledge of and ability to use computer and tablet technology
  • Work schedule may vary and includes weekends and unique events
  • Work up to 30 hours per week
