Description
Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated EHS Engineer with experience in safety and compliance associated with R&D and manufacturing of automation and robotic technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of regulations that govern Environmental, Health and Safety. They will also have strong understanding and experience in Machine Safety and related industry standards.
The candidate will collaborate with product, manufacturing and deployment teams to develop and execute risk mitigations plans and support the scaling of deployments into production. The position also collaborates with 3P suppliers and general contractors throughout projects to ensure compliance to the appropriate regulations, industry standards and Amazon policies.
Key job responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the EHS Engineer are as follows:
1. Perform safety risk assessments during all phases of a project.
2. Collaborate on product development, manufacturing and deployment activities with engineering, facilities, site safety, deployment teams, operations teams, suppliers, and contractors.
3. Develop comprehensive safety protocols and procedures for installation and testing of robotics equipment in various labs and manufacturing environment.
4. Develop safety inspections, audits and training content as needed for new processes, equipment and projects.
5. Conduct inspections, audits and training
6. Validate 3P suppliers and contractor credentials to ensure they are certified/trained/competent to perform the required work and review their safety risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHA).
7. Advises site safety, engineering and operations teams on safety regulations and regulatory compliance concerns relating to field environment and construction safety.
8. Ability to travel up to 30% to multiple sites in various regions

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in EHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations experience
- Experience leading multiple direct reports or multiple sites
- Bachelor's degree
- Must be familiar with OSHA, EPA regulations and applicable industry standards for Machine safety such as ANSI, NEC, NFPA.
- Experience in EHS management systems (ISO14001, ISO 45001).
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adapting the approach to meet the needs of customers, business and program stakeholders, and engineering teams involved.
- Able to think big, insist on high standards and deliver results.
- Ability to self-manage priorities and deliverables. Flexible in responding to changing demands, goals, timelines, and priorities.
- Ability to collaborate and lead in a flexible, detail-oriented, fast-paced team environment in a changing and growing organization.
- Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner, excellent critical thinker with problem-solving skills, think big and insist on highest standard while having the ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment
- Experience in a distribution center or manufacturing EHS with mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site of at least 250 people
