Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) – Atlanta Area School for the Deaf (AASD) are recruiting for an experienced Education Program Specialist 3 - Social-Emotional/Behavior Support Specialist. Under the supervision of the school-level Superintendent at AASD, this position provides evidence-based social-emotional and behavioral supports to students attending the school. Additionally, this position develops goals and objectives for the school regarding special education programming for students with behavioral deficits that impact their learning. This position plans implementation strategies of goals and objectives, monitors and evaluates results, and recommends programmatic improvements related to behavior and positive school climate. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Description of Duties
• Provide guidance and support, via evidence-based strategies, to students experiencing social-emotional or behavioral concerns
• Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) initiatives for AASD
• Monitor behavioral data collection and progress monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of PBIS and MTSS activities
• Serve as an integral member on the PBIS leadership team at AASD
• Assist teachers at AASD with conducting, developing, and implementing Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs)
• Assist teachers with behavioral data collection inclusive of, but not limited to PBIS/SWIS, MTSS, indirect and direct data collection for FBAs and BIPs, using the behavioral tools provided by the Division of State Schools
• Provide ongoing coaching and support to staff at AASD on behavioral support strategies
• Attend AASD Individual Educational Program (IEP) meetings as appropriate and assist with interpreting behavioral data
• Assist in monitoring records and procedures within the State Schools for compliance with federal and state regulations
• Implement fidelity measures to ensure appropriate implementation of behavioral accommodations/modifications and specially designed instruction
• Support staff at AASD with consistently monitoring the progress of students’ academic and behavioral interventions
• Ensure confidentiality for all students, student records, parents, staff, and schools
• Perform other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Possess or eligible to obtain a clear renewable Georgia teaching certificate in Deaf Education, School Guidance Counselor, or Special Education General Curriculum
• Possess Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), or Registered Behavior Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification
• Ability to effectively communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) at level 3 or higher
• Training and experience with evidenced-based De-escalation and Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) and/or Mindset
• Experience in providing group and individualized therapy sessions, via evidenced-based practices, to students in school settings
• Knowledge of PBIS and MTSS theories and practices
• Experience implementing FBAs, BIPs, and IEPs
• Experience implementing PBIS and MTSS
• Experience increasing student achievement
• Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Federal, and State regulations regarding the education of students (3-21 years of age) with disabilities
• Possess a strong understanding or proficiency in software and data management skills
• Experience with coaching staff regarding their use of data collection and analysis to improve students’ academic and behavioral achievement

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Six years of related experience.
