    Job Title: Relief Assistant Control Room Operator/Lab Tech/ MC ( _Union Position_ )

     

    Position Overview: This position is a union role within the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC), responsible for supporting the Control Room Operator in safely and efficiently controlling and operating boilers, gas and steam turbines, and associated equipment during an assigned shift. Duties will be performed from either the control room or local control stations near the equipment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Collaborate with the Control Room Operator and/or Auxiliary Operator to ensure the safe and efficient operation of generating units and other necessary equipment within the generating station.

    + Provide coverage for the Auxiliary Operator role as needed and may be assigned to work as a lab technician or as a helper in the mechanical or I&E maintenance departments.

    + Take functional direction from the Control Room Operator for specific tasks while reporting to the Shift Supervisor.

    + Perform activities such as regenerating demineralizers, conducting routine lab tests, and adding chemicals to systems, especially when working as a Lab Technician.

    + Assist mechanics or I&E technicians when not covering operational roles.

    + Oversee the control room when the Control Room Operator is absent.

    + Fulfill DOT-related gas pipeline duties, subject to a DOT-compliant drug testing program.

    Training & Experience Requirements:

    + A Massachusetts 2nd or 3rd Class Engineer’s License is required.

    + Desired qualifications include mechanical aptitude, experience in electrical and controls, and a strong understanding of computers.

    + Must be capable of obtaining certification through Veriforce for various phases of gas pipeline operations and maintenance.
