Summary

The Refrigeration Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial refrigeration systems. This role ensures that all refrigeration equipment operates within optimal conditions, supporting production and storage needs while complying with safety and environmental standards.This job will maintain and operate all equipment, including air compressors, HVAC equipment, and the ammonia refrigeration system.

Key Responsibilities

+ **System Operation:**

+ Monitor and operate industrial refrigeration systems, including ammonia and Freon-based systems, ensuring proper functioning and temperature regulation.

+ Conduct regular system checks and record operating data such as pressures, temperatures, and flow rates.

+ **Maintenance & Repair:**

+ Perform preventive maintenance on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and other system components.

+ Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and control issues with refrigeration systems.

+ Replace worn or defective parts as needed.

+ **Safety & Compliance:**

+ Adhere to safety procedures and regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.) for handling refrigerants and operating systems.

+ Conduct leak detection and maintain proper documentation of refrigerant use and disposal.

+ Participate in safety drills and maintain knowledge of emergency response procedures for refrigeration leaks.

+ **System Improvement:**

+ Identify and implement opportunities to improve system efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

+ Assist in system upgrades or expansions, including equipment installation and commissioning.

+ **Recordkeeping & Reporting:**

+ Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and system performance.

+ Report any issues or potential hazards to management promptly.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

+ 2-5 years of experience working with industrial refrigeration systems, including ammonia refrigeration.

Other Information

+ Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in English in a manner to successfully complete job duties.

+ Must be able to lift 50 lbs. (heavy valves, motors, etc.)

+ Must be able to use a computer and successfully navigate through various applications. Must be proficient at computer system data entry.

+ Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.

+ Must be able to work in extreme environments (cold, hot, humid and slippery).

+ Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of HVAC equipment and be able to change filters, belts, and do other minor repairs.

+ Must have a practical mechanical background and manual dexterity in both hands.

+ Must be able to read and interpret written instructions, manufacturers’ manuals, material safety data sheets, and engineering drawings.

+ Must possess or obtain in first week of job a Simplot forklift license.

+ Applicants must be available to work any shift (7am-7 pm or 7pm-7am).

+ Must have good communication, math and computer skills.

+ Physical activities include walking, bending, stair and ladder climbing, and lifting up to 40 lbs. on a daily basis.
