    Overview

     

    Performs assigned functions relating to research programs, factor home management program, and grant coordination.

    Responsibilities

    * Ensures receipt of hemophilia factor and supplies to patients.

    * Ensures hemophilia statistics are maintained, verified, and provided to other administrative personnel.

    * Monitors patient bills to ensure third-party reimbursement for services are rendered.

    * Identifies, researches, and solves patient billing problems.

    * Manages charity account which provides eligible patients assistance with payment of billing balances for insurance problems and acts as their liaison in maintaining necessary authorization/approvals with third party payors.

    * Functions as a supervisor for secretarial staff.

    * Develops and maintains efficient office procedures relative to the delivery of quality health care and maintenance, the accounting and record keeping of day-to-day activities.

    * Reviews research protocol and develops abstract and patient informed consent. Submits protocols for approval to the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

    * Collects data, maintains records, and manages billing and expenses for approved research protocols.

    * Prepares amendments and annual reports to be submitted to the IRB.

    * Ensures participating patients receive study appointments and medication.

    * Alerts investigators and IRB Committee of communications regarding adverse drug reaction reports.

    * Manages funds from government grants, Blood Management Program, and donations. Provides ongoing updated reports of account balances and planned encumbrances. Orders supplies and equipment and processes invoices for payment.

    * Collects data to implement new research projects or support grant goals.

    * Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications

    * Business/Accounting degree preferred with 2 years of experience in a medical or financial setting.

    * Knowledge of medical insurance and billing systems desirable.

    * Strong computer skills necessary.
