    Job Overview:The Autopsy Technician plays a crucial role in assisting Pathologists and Medical Examiners during autopsies and external examinations,

     

    This position involves a variety of complex tasks, including the collection and labeling of evidentiary materials, maintaining instruments and supplies, and ensuring the overall appearance of the morgue,

     

    The technician must possess a working knowledge of anatomy and the ability to handle the psychological aspects of the job, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to biohazard measures

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    + High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

    + Knowledge of anatomy as applied to performing autopsies

    + Ability to physically perform job functions, including lifting and moving decedents

    Scheduling Requirements:

    + Per Diem

    + Day Shift

    Essential Functions:

    + Assist Pathologists and Medical Examiners with autopsies and external examinations.

    + Collect and label evidentiary materials including toxicology and laboratory samples

    + Maintain instruments, formalin, solutions, containers, equipment, and supplies for autopsies

    + Set up supplies and equipment for use during autopsies.

    + Weigh and measure bodies, maintaining the overall appearance of the morgue

    + Take muscle, skin, bone, and tissue samples for later use.

    + Handle contaminated specimens and biological hazardous waste appropriately.

    + Establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff, law enforcement, and funeral directors.

    + Assist with evisceration, dissection, and restoration of the body during postmortem examinations.
