    Northwestern State University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Bands and Instructor of Percussion. This is a 12-month position at the rank of instructor (non-tenure track) and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of applications begins immediately.

    Applicants who advance as candidates will be asked to provide links to a percussion-based rehearsal and a performance (ex. half time show) under the candidate’s supervision. Candidates will also be asked to provide examples of “show music” arranged for drumlines, and recordings of the applicant as a performer.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Minimum degree: Masters required, doctorate preferred;

    + Evidence of successful teaching experience at high school and/or the college level with marching bands, drum lines, front ensembles is required.

    + Candidates who also possess experience in front ensemble electronics and sound amplification/manipulation are especially encouraged to apply.

     

    Job Concepts

     

    The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Director of Bands and the Director of Athletic Bands in administrating a large comprehensive university program to promote heightened student experiences and recruit for the band program, the music department, and the university. In collaboration with the Director of Athletic Bands, the candidate will instruct and manage the marching band percussion section, participate in the creative design process, contribute to student leadership development, and perform other administrative responsibilities associated with the marching band and their activities. Prior experience in leading high school and/or collegiate drum lines and writing music for the section will be given priority consideration. The candidate will also assist with the NSU Summer Music Camps. Additionally, the successful applicant will teach based on the candidate's qualifications and needs of the band program and music department. All music faculty are expected to engage in departmental and university service and participate in fostering a collegial and professional atmosphere for students, staff, and faculty colleagues.
