    Job Summary

    The School of Leadership, located in the College of Business and Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream, associate or full professor appointment in Human Capital Development to begin August 2025. The School of Leadership’s programs in this field include an M.S. and Ph.D.

    The Human Capital Development program is delivered from the Gulf Park campus located in Long Beach, MS. For full consideration, application materials should be submitted in full by February 1, 2025.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Research: Sustain a robust research agenda to include the creation and dissemination of new knowledge, pursue external research support, and supervise graduate-level research;

    + Teaching: Teach graduate-level coursework at the master’s and doctoral levels, hold regular office hours, teach executive format, hybrid, and online courses, assist with the development, assessment, and evaluation of programs;

    + Service: Chair and serve as a member on master’s and dissertation committees, evaluate masters and doctoral comprehensive exams, actively participate in School, College, and University level committees, and recruit graduate students;

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Candidates must hold a doctorate in Human Capital Development or a closely related field, such as human resource development, workforce development, leadership, or organizational development. They must have at least five years of full-time faculty experience in university-level teaching, research, and service. Additionally, they must have completed at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in Human Capital Development or a related field, possess demonstrated success in college teaching and research or scholarly activity, and exhibit exceptional written and oral communication skills.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

     

    + Ability to supervise graduate research.

    + Ability to teach graduate classes in the Human Capital Development curriculum.

    + Ability to conduct a productive research agenda.

    + Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and populations.

    + Ability to build and maintain external stakeholder and campus relationships.

    + Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds.

    + Ability to navigate and use learning management systems for teaching, such as Canvas.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience instructing hybrid, online, 8 week-format courses;

    + Hold tenure and rank (Associate or Full Professor) at the University level;

    + Demonstrated publishing in top-tier academic journals and external funding activity consistent with associate or full professor in a Research Intensive university;

    + Experience teaching both qualitative and quantitative methods courses as well as core courses in change leadership, workforce development, workforce analysis (evaluation and assessment), and foundations of human capital development; and

    + Hold professional licensure, certifications, or awards in the area of teaching.
