The ADR serves as a member of the Dean’s leadership team and is a member of the college’s executive council. The person in this position represents CVMBS research programs internally and externally to the college and university, including the CSU Council of Research Associate Deans, and serves as the primary liaison to the Office of the Vice President for Research on research related matters. The ADR supports the breadth of CSU CVMBS’ biomedical science to veterinary clinical research portfolio through advocacy and identification of research opportunities and programs to support CVMBS research success.

The ADR must be an innovative and strategic thinker who can build consensus among a diverse faculty and prioritize college investments in research, and who is committed to others achieving success through the process of research and discovery. The ADR is fluent with federal, state, not for profit, industrial, gift and other extramural sources of research funding, and is familiar with both clinical trials and the commercialization process. Reflecting college and institutional values, candidates are expected to have the ability to advance the College’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, and support research programs that advance these priorities.

The ADR strategically develops and supports a diverse research portfolio including educational research, training programs, interdisciplinary and independent research programs, basic and applied biomedical science and (veterinary) and clinical research. This position is encouraged to think broadly and innovatively about ways to support, enhance and develop research opportunities at the translational interface, and incorporate emerging research technologies and opportunities for the benefit of CVMBS faculty scholarship opportunities. The ADR is the college representative for oversight of regulatory requirements for the conduct of research and is advisory to grants administration at the college. The ADR must work effectively with associate department heads for research, faculty, staff, graduate students, college leadership team members and university administration to achieve college goals in research and graduate education.
