    JOB SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Risk Strategy and Strategic Risk Partner, this senior leader oversees the team responsible for risk strategy including defining the risk taxonomy, risk appetite and company risk profile. Risk Strategy will serve as the strategic arm of Enterprise Risk and Governance. It will develop and socialize the risk taxonomy, evaluate enterprise risk appetite and profile alignment, and support risk strategy and innovation. The incumbent will develop thought leadership proposals and advise on appropriate risk levels for the enterprise leveraging actuarial and statistical analysis, external resources, and by business knowledge gathered through close partnership with the Strategic Risk Partners and Risk Operations functions. It will identify the strategy for the risk operations team to execute against. This team will also serve as subject matter experts for 2nd line of defense functions (Legal, Compliance, Information Security, Risk Management, Quality Assurance), and serve as leads for their “Communities of Practice”.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity. Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.

    + **Risk Quantification:** Responsible for supporting the ongoing refinement of the risk management framework, including identification of and strategy for consuming relevant internal and external risk sources for analytics and monitoring. Responsible for integration of statistical and actuarial models into traditional process-based approaches to risk management across all risk types.

    + **Risk Strategy and the Three Lines of Defense:** Responsible for strengthening the three LoD (Line of Defense) structures within the Highmark Health enterprise and clarifying respective roles and responsibilities for each. Management of the strategy for risk assessment, risk decisioning, risk treatment, and risk reporting/monitoring. Responsible for periodic risk filings with regulatory bodies and liaises with external parties in representing approach to enterprise risk management.

    + **Risk appetite, profile, and governance alignment:** Facilitate the establishment, implementation, and curation of Highmark Health’s and each Highmark Health business unit’s risk appetite across the enterprise risk taxonomy. Responsible for driving risk culture, including embedding the enterprise risk appetite into supporting policies, processes, governance structures, business tools, and templates. Responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of enterprise management committees, including charters, committee composition, and ongoing administration in support of canvasing the evolving enterprise risk profile, appetite, and taxonomy.

    + **Strategic Initiative Delivery:** Accountable for oversight and delivery of team of professionals attached to high priority enterprise initiatives to ensure security, audit, risk, compliance, and privacy considerations are identified and addressed. Interact with Highmark Health and vendor personnel at all levels and is able to effectively communicate risks, expectations, and alternative strategies to mitigate Highmark Health concerns.

    + **Continuous improvement:** Lead and implement best practice approach to the management of risk including corporate risk across the organization. Develop and implement measures to evaluate the impact and efficacy of risk strategy.

    + 7 - 10 years in progressive leadership roles
