    The Department of Economics (https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/) at the University of Pennsylvania (https://www.upenn.edu/) will have one tenure-track Assistant Professor position available with specialization in any field.

     

    We are a collaborative and interactive department. Our faculty and students are dedicated to applying vanguard theoretical, computational, and empirical methods to answer questions of general economic research and policy interest . The Department of Economics is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences (https://www.sas.upenn.edu/) , which is comprised of 28 academic departments (https://www.sas.upenn.edu/departments/) , the College of Arts and Sciences (https://www.college.upenn.edu/) , the Graduate Division (https://www.sas.upenn.edu/graduate/) , and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies (https://www.lps.upenn.edu/) . Interdisciplinary research and collaboration are supported by the breadth and depth of academic pursuits at Penn (https://www.hr.upenn.edu/PennHR/careers-at-penn/penn) as well as the proximity of resources on our contiguous green urban campus (https://facilities.upenn.edu/services/landscape) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.     The department offers two majors, an economics major (https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/undergraduate/majors-and-minors/economics-major) as well as a mathematical economics (https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/undergraduate/majors-and-minors/mathematical-economics-major) major. The economics major provides students with an understanding of the modern discipline of Economics, and the mathematical economics major is designed for students with a strong interest in both economics and mathematics who will potentially consider pursuing a graduate degree. Combined, our two majors have consistently been the largest undergraduate major in the School of Arts and Sciences. Our vibrant Ph.D. program (https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/graduate) houses about 100 students from across the globe. Our graduate students often go on to become assistant professors in research universities and liberal arts colleges, or to work in government agencies or the private sector.

    The successful candidate’s written materials and scholarly productivity will be expected to demonstrate:

    • Strong research potential

    • Capacity for teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and mentoring and supporting a diverse student body

    • Ability to direct graduate/undergraduate research
