    Description of Work Unit

    The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University is a large academic and research department in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. We currently have twenty three faculty members, ninety graduate students, over seventy full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows, and an outstanding and dedicated support staff, that comprise one of the most research-active units at the university. The department conducts more than $14M in externally sponsored research each year and is nationally ranked near the top of its field.

     

    Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 33,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 168,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

    Position Summary

    The department accepts applications on an ongoing basis from individuals who are interested in obtaining research positions with the department. The open position may be a temporary or special Research Associate (Level I, II, or III ) assignment and may be for limited periods of time. This is an open pool, and applications will be forwarded to open positions as they become available.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Level I– an entry level position for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, oceanography, physics, chemistry, or a closely-related field, with less than three years of professional of post baccalaureate experience.

    + Level II– includes individuals with an RA I plus three years of experience or a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, oceanography, physics, chemistry, or a closely-related field, plus three years of professional experience, or a master’s degree.

    + Level III – includes individuals with an RA II or individuals with a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, oceanography, physics, chemistry, or a closely-related field, and five years of work-related experience, or a masters degree with at least two years of experience.
