    Description

    Heavy Equipment Mechanic

     

    Perform a variety of tasks on heavy-duty trucks, large construction vehicles and equipment.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    + Inspect, diagnose, and repair brake systems, engines, electrical components, steering systems, transmissions, and tires.

    + Perform routine maintenance on trucks, such as checking batteries and changing oil to ensure proper vehicle running.

    + Diagnose malfunctions in defective equipment by inspecting and testing using devises such as motor analyzers, handheld computers, and chassis charts.

    + Test drive vehicles to ensure they are running properly and to find issues to determine what the solution will be.

    + Replace parts, valves, bearings, and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Must be 18 years of age or older.

    + Previous experience preferred but not required

    + Must be able to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly

    + Must be comfortable with working in awkward positions or cramped spaces

    + Willingness and ability to learn

    Education

    + High school diploma or GED equivalent

    Pre-Screen

    + Upon offer, employees may be required to subject and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background and/or MVR check.

    License & Certifications:

    + Valid CDL-A preferred.

    + Valid driver's license required.

    Travel Requirements:

    + Potential travel required for temporary backup needs at other office locations.

    Physical Requirements:

    + RARE(less than 10%): crawling, climbing poles, gripping, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs

    + OCCASSIONAL(up to 33%): climbing on/off truck, lifting, carrying, lifting over 50 lbs.

    + FREQUENT(up to 66%):sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, lifting, carrying, lifting up to 10 lbs., lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs.

    + CONTINUOUS(up to 100%): standing, walking, body-twisting, speaking clearly, seeing distant, seeing, reading, reaching, range-of-motion, hearing-speech range, depth perception

     

    Safety

     

    Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
