**Pay Range:** $21.61 - $34.04 per hour

Summary:
The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for providing counseling to all prospective and current Rush University students regarding the financial aid application process, policies and procedures, and any other financial aid matter with which students need assistance. In addition, this role coordinates and conducts group exit counseling sessions for graduating students and monitors the average debt levels for students across all Rush University academic programs. The Office of Student Financial Aid supports four colleges; Rush Medical College, College of Nursing, College of Health Sciences and The Graduate College with a total enrollment of approximately 2,300 students. Rush students represent a variety of disciplines focused on healthcare and the basic biomedical sciences. Rush offers degree and certificate programs at the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral levels, with instruction being delivered on-campus and through distance learning. Required Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience with utilizing a variety of technologies, in student information systems, Microsoft Excel and federal financial aid databases such as CPS, COD, NSLDS and ELM.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Two years’ graduate and professional student experience.
• Experience in university environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for providing counseling to undergraduate and graduate level students and families on the financial aid application process including completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), institutional aid application, federal, private and institutional loans.
2. Provides information on the variety of federal, institutional, and state funding options, including Title IV and Title VIII funding.
3. Interprets and explains the Federal, State and institutional regulations regarding the portfolio of financial aid programs, including federal Title IV and Title VIII programs.
4. Verifies work-study eligibility for students and assists with completion of required documentation.
5. Counsels prospective students, existing students and alumni on loan repayment issues and concerns.
6. Meets with Rush residents and interns to provide information on loan repayment options and field questions.
7. Possesses the ability to communicate with students using a variety of mediums: email, phone, in-person, social media.
8. Attends college fairs, community programs, open houses for the purpose of providing financial aid information to prospective students.
9. Answers inquiries from faculty and staff on an array of financial aid policies and procedures.
10. Participates in orientation sessions to advise news students on various funding options as well as eligibility requirements.
11. Responsible for administration and management of Federal Direct Loans, Alternative Loans and Institutional Loans.
12. Responsible for the processing of Federal Perkins and Federal Nursing Loans including the transmission of loan data to Campus Partners.
13. Continuous monitoring and reconciliation of all loan disbursements to student accounts to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and in compliance with federal regulations.
14. Reconciles Federal Direct Loan disbursements and cash withdrawals with university Bursar on a monthly basis in compliance with federal regulations.
15. Certifies, processes, and imports all Alternative Loan funding via Electronic Loan Management system (ELM) and the university's student information system; Colleague.
16. Reviews daily Colleague report for disbursement errors and makes corrections as needed.
17. Exports all origination and disbursements records to the Department of Education's Commonline Origination and Disbursement (COD) on a daily basis.
18. Assists the Director of Student Financial Aid with closing the annual Federal Direct Loan program.
19. Schedules, prepares, and conducts group Exit Counseling sessions for students graduating or withdrawing.
20. Create loan history portfolios for actively enrolled students to track and provide accurate comprehensive Exit Counseling.
21. Interprets and explains the Federal Direct Loan program repayment options available to borrowers especially the variety of income sensitive repayment plans.
22. Compiles and maintains data on graduated students' annual average debt per academic program using the National
23. Assists the Office of Financial Affairs with preparation of Exit Counseling information for Rush Loans, Perkins Loans, and Federal Nursing Loans Financial Aid Packaging.
24. Reviews financial aid application materials, including the FAFSA, institutional aid application, parent information, tax documentation, and any other required application information.
25. Corresponds with students to request additional documentation and reconcile conflicting information pursuant to the federal guidelines.
26. Calculates financial aid eligibility using federal and institutional formula.
27. Prepares financial aid packages and cost of attendance budgets for students enrolled in all academic programs by established due dates.
