    Job Descriptions:

    New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a Per-Diem Oncology Infusion Room RN to work in our Kennebunk office. The Infusion Nurse position is responsible for various duties of an Oncology RN based on daily practice needs focusing on infusion nursing on a regular basis. This position works collaboratively with Clinic Managers, Nurse Navigators, Charge Nurses, and Lead Medical Assistants in carrying out day to day aspects of clinical operations. This individual may be responsible for answering technical questions. Communicate issues to the appropriate Clinic Manager, Department Manager or Director.

     

    NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from five separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire.     Required Experience:

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.

    + Assist Physicians, conduct patient assessments.

    + Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation are completed safely and effectively.

    + Initiate and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol.

    + Follows established oncology protocols to maintain clean and safe working environments. Safeguards self and others against the hazards of toxic drugs, disposes of hazardous waste according to approved protocol.

    + Delivers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and non-oncology infusions in accordance with prescribed protocols and NECS guidelines.

    + Performs injections and IV therapy (IV starts, PICC line/Port Access) utilizing aseptic technique.

    + Calculate/verify AUC dosing, CrCl, IVIG dosing.

    + Operate infusion pumps.

    + Perform therapeutic phlebotomy in accordance with physician orders.

    + Evaluate lab data in conjunction with the provider to provide appropriate care to the patient.

    + Provide patient education at chairside regarding therapies patient is receiving.

    + Evaluate side effects and toxicities of therapy and provide for their management.

    + Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees and vendors.

    + Provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors.

    + Work collaboratively with the Clinical Research, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Business Office, HR, and Genetic departments.

    + Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.

    + Help ensure that resources, supplies, and materials are available

    + Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.

    + Demonstrates respect for life, dignity, and rights of all persons.

    + Ensures the smooth execution of all practice nursing policies, procedures and systems.

    Education and/or Experience

    + Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing required. Licensed Nurse within State of Maine required.

    + ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification required within 6 (six) months of hire

    + Two years plus nursing professional experience required

    + Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.

    + OCN required within 1 (one) year of hire or when eligible based on ONCC criteria

    + INS required within 2 (two) years of hire or when eligible based on INS criteria
