The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is the state agency responsible for overseeing investor-owned electric power, natural gas, and water companies in Massachusetts. It regulates the safety of bus companies, moving companies, transportation network companies, and oversees the safety of natural gas pipelines and the MBTA. The Environmental Justice and Public Participation Divisionis responsible forintegrating environmental justice (EJ) principles across DPU’s work and empowering, promoting, and supporting public voices at the DPU. The Division’s work is taking place in a rapidly evolving energy landscape, with significant technological, regulatory, and market changes, and a growing emphasis on affordability, meaningful engagement, mitigating and adapting to climate change, andequitabledistribution of benefits to help the Commonwealth advance its clean energy future. This internship wouldprovidethe candidate an opportunity toparticipateandcontribute toongoing projects to implement the Division’s EJ strategy andenhance public participation. Position We are excited to offer an internship position in ourEnvironmental Justice and Public Participation Division. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about energy policy, clean energy, and utility regulation. Whetheryou'refamiliar with the DPU or new to our work, we welcome your fresh perspectives and enthusiasm. Key Responsibilities * Assistwithcreating a glossary of technical and legal terms commonly used in DPU mattersand other research projects * Support thedevelopment of best practices andeducationalresources to implementDPU’sEJstrategyand increase public awareness about DPU’s work * Contribute toprojects related to theimplementationofsiting andpermittingregulations required by the 2024 Climate Act. *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.* Preferred Qualifications * Interest in energy policy, clean energy, and utility regulation. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
