The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining and organizing patient medical records in a healthcare facility. This includes ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of all medical records. The Medical Records Clerk will also be responsible for retrieving and releasing medical records as needed.
Duties include but are not limited to:
+ Organize and maintain patient medical records in accordance with facility policies and procedures
+ Ensure accuracy and completeness of all medical records
+ Protect the confidentiality of patient medical records
+ Retrieve and release medical records as needed
+ Assist healthcare providers with accessing patient medical records
+ Respond to requests for medical records from patients, insurance companies, and other healthcare providers
+ Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to medical records
+ Assist with audits and quality assurance activities related to medical records
+ Complies with facility safety, infection control and security program.
+ Supports facility internal and external customer service standards.
+ Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.
Requirements
Education: High School degree or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience: Previous experience working with medical records required
+ Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare regulations
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
+ Proficient in computer skills and medical record systems
Required Licenses – Billing & Coding, HRIT or HRIA, Medical Records Cert (preferred)
+ Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
+ Basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and typing skills.
+ Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.
+ Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
+ Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, the leadership team and external partners.
+ Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
+ Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
+ Emotional maturity.
+ Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
+ Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.
+ Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, working well under pressure with minimal supervision.
+ Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.
+ Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; Additional language abilities desirable.6. Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures.
+ Ability to remain seated for long periods of time without significant discomfort or distress.
+ Ability to effectively interact with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic classes, those in crises or resistant or negative toward organization.
+ Screening: Must successfully pass background check, drug and physical screening
+ Physical Demands: With or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to stoop, kneel, lift moving about in work area and throughout organization to accomplish task. Light work most of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
